When a 14-year-old boy from Atlanta, Georgia disappeared earlier this year, his mother used an app called Family Tracker to find out her son’s location. It is one of the apps that helps parents to track(追踪) where their child is.

“You can see where your family members are without making calls,” said Roberto Franceschetti, the creator of the Family Tracker, which has more than 100,000 users around the world.

Parents can track their children’s location on a map and send messages. Parents don’t need to own a smartphone to follow their children. The service can also be used on the web, as long as the phone that is being tracked is running the app. That is to say, if a kid is having an iPhone running this app, it will be followed up by his parents easily.

Family Tracker has another service that keeps all data from the app for two weeks. The service was used to find the missing boy in Atlanta.

“The app can keep all the places where people have been. You can find out where someone was at a certain time, or when that person was at a certain place,” Franceschetti explained.

“When somebody gets kidnapped, usually the kidnaper(绑匪)throws the phone away or takes the battery out.
