Parents should stop blaming themselves because there’s not a lot they can do about it. I mean the teenager (十几岁的孩子) problem. Whatever you do or however you choose to deal with it, at certain times a wonderful, reasonable and helpful child will turn into a terrible animal.
I’ve seen friends deal with it in all kinds of different ways. One strict mother insisted that her son, right from a child, should stand up whenever anyone entered the room, open doors and shake hands like a gentleman. I saw him last week when I called round. Sprawling himself (懒散地躺) on the sofa in full length, he made no attempt to turn off the loud TV he was watching as I walked in, and his greeting was no more than a quick glance at me. His mother was ashamed. ―I don’t know what to do with him these days,‖ she said. ―He’s forgotten all the manners we taught him.‖ He hasn’t forgotten them. He’s just decided that he’s not going to use them. She confessed (坦白) that she would like to come up behind him and throw him down from the sofa onto the floor.
Another good friend of mine let her two daughters climb all over the furniture, reach across the table, stare at me and say, ―I don’t like your dress; it’s ugly.‖ One of the daughters has recently been driven out of school. The other has left home.
―Where did we go wrong?‖ Her parents are now very sad. Probably nowhere much. At least, no more than the rest of that unfortunate race, parents. 51. This text is most probably written by _______ A. an expert in teenager studies B. a headmaster of a middle school

You might say that one reason Barack Obama is the President of the US is because he knows how to give a good speech. In 2004, when Massachusetts Senator(参议员) John Kerry was the Democratic Party’s nominee(被提名者) for the presidency, a little-known senator from Illinois gave the keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention. That senator was Obama. It was a remarkable speech -- poetic, and inspiring. The people who heard it would remember it for a long time.
Since 2004, Obama has written and delivered thousands of speeches. These are usually praised for two reasons: he treats the audiences like intelligent adults, and he is able to express complicated ideas in an easy, natural way. Before becoming president, Obama was a lawyer, a college professor, and a successful writer -- his two memoirs(回忆录) have become best-sellers. The skills he needed to succeed in his previous jobs have also contributed to his success as a speechmaker.
Writing team: Obama has a team of people who write his speeches. The writers chat with Obama for hours about what he wants to say. They listen to recordings of past presidential addresses and seek advice from advisers. Obama usually edits and rewrites the drafts several times.
Obama’s tricks for a lighthearted speech that stays on message:
Make fun of the guests. Obama starts his speech by gently teasing his guests. His opening lines grab the audience’s attention while giving them an opportunity to relax and laugh at themselves and each other.
Make fun of yourself. A good rule for speechmakers: If you’re going to make a joke about someone else, be sure to make one about yourself, too. Obama mocks his own poor choices for filling the position of Commerce Secretary, saying, \Commerce Secretaries this quickly.‖
61. Obama made the poetic and inspiring speech in 2004 as________.
A. president B. a nominee(候选人) for the presidency C. a senator(议员) D. a secretary
6
62. What’s the meaning of the underlined word in paragraph 2? A. Difficult to understand. B. Easy to understand. C. Different from others D. Interesting to say.
63. According to the passage, we know that before becoming president, _________. A. Obama was once a lawyer, a doctor and a college professor. B. Obama was a successful writer.
C. Obama’s three memoirs have become best-sellers.
D. Obama’s former jobs have nothing to do with his speech. 64. According to paragraph 3, we know that _________. A. Obama writes his speech himself.
B. the writers chat with Obama only for minutes before writing.
C. the writers never listen to recordings of past presidential speeches. D. Obama is serious with his speech. 65. What’s the best title of the passage?
A. Secret of Obama’s successful speeches. B. Obama’s successful speeches.
C. Obama’s way of making speeches. D. Problems of Obama’s speeches.
D.
When international aid is given, steps must be taken to ensure (确保)that the aid reaches the people for whom it is intended. The way to achieve this may not be simple. It is very difficult for a nation to give help directly to people in another nation. The United Nations Organiztion(UNO) could undertake to direct the distribution of aid. Here however rises the problem of costs. Also tied with this is time. Perhaps the UNO could set up a body of devoted men and women is every country who can speedily distribute aid to victims of floods and earthquakes. More than the help that one nation can give to another during a disaster, it would be more effective to give other forms of help during normal times. A common proverb says, ―Give me a fish and I eat for day, teach me to fish and I eat for a lifetime.‖ If we follow this wise saying, it would be right to teach people from less developed nations to take care of themselves. For example, a country could share its technology with another. This could be in simple areas like agriculture or in more complex areas like medical and health care or even in building satellites. Even small country is able to help less developed nations. Sometimes what is take for granted, like the setting up of a water purification plant or the administration of a school, could be useful for countries which are looking about to solve common problems. It does not cost much to share such simple things. Exchange students could be attached for a number of months or years and learn the required craft while on the site. They can then take their knowledge back to their homelands and if necessary come back form time to time to clear doubts or to update themselves. Such aid will be truly helpful and there is no chance of it being temporary or of it falling into the wrong hands. Many countries run extensive courses in all sorts of skills. It will not cost much to include deserving foreigners in these courses. Besides giving effective help to the countries concerned, there is also the build-up of friendships to consider. Giving direct help by giving materials may be effective in the short run and must continue to be given in the event of emergencies. However, in the long run what is really effective would be the sharing of knowledge.
66. According to the author, how could international aid reach the victims in time ?
7
A. By solving the cost problems B. By solving the transportation problems C. By setting up a body of devoted people in every country. D. By relying on the direct distribution of the UNO.
67. What does the author try to express in the underlined sentence ? A. Providing food is vital B. Learning to fish is helpful C. Teaching skills is essential D. Looking after others is important. 68. The second paragraph is developed mainly _________. A. by example B. by process C. by comparison D. by contrast 69. Which aid is likely to fall into the wrong hands ? A. A medical team. B. An exchange program. C. A water plant. D. Financial support. 70. What can we infer about international aid from the passage ? A. It is facing difficulties. B. It is unnecessary during normal times C. It should be given in the form of materials D. It has gained support developed countries

阅读下面短文并用英语回答问题,(请注意字数要求)。 Butterfly’s Wings
One day a small opening appeared on a cocoon( 茧子) a man sat and watched for the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly, he took a pair of scissors and cut off the remaining
8
bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily.
But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled (皱缩的)wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time.Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings .It was never able to fly. What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were God’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon. Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life.If God allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple (使跛)us.We would not be as strong as what we could have been.
I asked for strength,
And God gave me difficulties to make me strong. I asked for wisdom,
And God gave me problems to solve. I asked for courage,
And God gave me danger to overcome. I asked for love,
And God gave me troubled people to help. I received nothing I wanted, I received everything I needed.

the toy or faced my cousin again; I would always know, I'd done something wrong. Late

Food Safety Issues
Nowadays, unsafe food can be found, now and then, in the market, which has aroused a lot of public attention.
Unsafe food is harmful in many ways. To begin with, it has a bad effect on the reputation of the real manufacturers and brings about moral crisis, making people not believe in each other any more. Above all, people’s health and lives are severely threatened if they buy and eat some unsafe food.
Measures should be taken to deal with the problem. For one thing, strict laws should be passed to punish the producers and the sellers. Once found committing such a crime, they must answer for what they have done. For another, the government should strengthen the supervision of all aspects of food.
With some effective measures taken, I firmly believe this problem will be solved in the near future. (128)
