1. What do the English usually have for breakfast on weekends? 2. Why is dinner the most important meal of the day in England?

13

In England, on weekdays, breakfast in most homes is often a hurried meal of milk, bread, juice and tea or coffee. Some people just stop at coffee shops for coffee. But at weekends, things are quite different. People often have a large breakfast with fried eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms and toast. Lunch is just a short break from the day’s work and it is not a big meal. It usually lasts less than an hour. Most people have a sandwich or fruit for lunch. People either take their lunch to work or eat in a fast food restaurant.

Dinner is the most important meal of the day in England. At this meal, most families try to sit down together. It is much bigger than lunch and is usually a hot meal with soup, a main course and sometimes dessert. The main course usually includes meat, vegetables and potatoes. It is a happy time for family members to sit around the dinner table and talk about the day’s events.

Read the letter that Li Hua writes to his friend. Hi, Li Wei,

I can’t wait to tell you how good I feel after two months’ exercise and dieting. Do you remember Tom used to joke that I was wearing a tyre around my waist? Guess what? Only two months’ exercise and I have lost 10 kilograms. The “tyre” is gone! Sounds amazing, eh! I bet if you also plan a diet and exercise programme and stick to it, you can make it too. Dieting doesn’t mean you have to give up food like ice cream. The party isn’t over. Just watch how often you eat it. Exercise is the same. Make sure it’s on your timetable. Set regular goals that you can really live with. Then, as all the ads say, just do it!

Wanna have a try? It really can be fun and easy!
