Today, there are many companies to help you get started. Usually a company helps you get a job and plan your trip. You pay for your own travel expenses, such as air fare and taxi fare.
And what kind of work and travel projects can you do? You can work for a popular teen magazine in Britain or work on a Norwegian cruise ship or at some ski resorts in Europe. You can also work at an amusement park such as Disneyland in the United States.
Some students go for a month. Others stay for six months to a year. Think about your goals and then decide.
Here are some tips from other students about what to bring: Bring a credit card. You might need cash for food, clothes, or travel. Make two or three copies of important documents such as your passport, it may help you a lot.

M: How are you paying for your college education?
W: The cost for every term are almost $15,000. At the start of each term my parents pay $10,000.
I also get $2,000 from my college. I have to earn the rest by myself.
M; How do you do that?
W: I have a part-time job at a hotel. I work about twelve hours a week, and then earn $400.
M: How do you spend that money?
W: It helps to pay for the meals at noon and also something for my daily life.
M: You don’t have much money for fun, do you?
W: That’s true! My mother told me to have a good plan, so I don’t have to borrow. I hardly ever go to the movies.
M: How else do you save money?
W: I don’t go to restaurants. I cook with my roommates so it’s cheaper to eat. I try to walk or ride my bike to college. Oh, and I usually choose some cheap clothes in second-hand shops. I think some of the clothes there are nice.
