Introduction
SmartPlant Spoolgen is a high productivity isometric drawing system that creates spool sheets and isometric drawings from piping data files. Because it is a self-contained system, it requires no other software to drive it with the exception of a 2D graphics system for the viewing and plotting of the output isometrics. The following graphic illustrates the standard flow of data:

Lab 1 - Aims & Objectives
This lab is intended to show you the basics of SmartPlant Spoolgen, after this lab you will understand the basic workflow and basic functions. The following features will be shown:
? Importing data (IDF) ? Checking in / Checking out ? Splitting drawings
? Adding site and workshop welds ? Adding Pipeline Attributes ? Generating isometrics
? Understanding the Workflow Database

9. Place the split point at the location shown below and select the Tick icon to confirm placement:
10. Next we are going to update the view (refresh) this will recalculate the POD file and split the
isometric into two sheets. Select the Update Current View icon.
The isometric will now be split onto two sheets; the title bar shows the sheet that is currently active.
You can control the sheets by using the Window menu, or by double clicking on the Sheet property in the tree View

11. The next step is to place some welds, you are going to place Site Welds which will break the isometric
into smaller spools. Select the Place Site Weld icon.
Place the welds at the following locations:
Sheet 1

12. Next, you are going to place a weld in the section of pipe on sheet 1, place a Work Shop Weld as
shown below:
13. The next step is to add some information to the pipeline attributes, right click in the white space and
select Pipeline Properties:

14. Enter values as shown:
The values entered above can be outputted to the generated Isometrics and reports.

15. You are now going to generate the outputs; the first output will be the Spools, right click in
whitespace and select Generate Spools, or select the Generate Spools icon
This should generate 8 spool drawings.
16. View the drawings and check for accuracy.
17. Generate a different style of Isometric, this time select Generate Drawing and then select the
Final-Weld-Box style, select OK to generate.

18. This should generate 2 drawings, view the drawings and check for accuracy.
19. Save and close SG-T1
20. As a final step Check In SG-T1, this effectively completes the processing of this pipeline.

21. View the Work Flow database, not SG-T1 is now marked as complete

This lab is intended to show you further functionality of SmartPlant Spoolgen, after this lab you will understand the basic workflow and some further functions. The following features will be shown:
? Importing
? Checking in / Checking out ? Using the AutoSplit function
? Changing categories of multiple components ? Adding Supports ? Adding Support Welds ? Adding Messages
? Adding Reference Dimensions ? Adding FFW welds ? Generating isometrics

13. Next place 2 flow arrows as shown, ensure the direction is correct.
14. Place 3 supports on each elbow at elevation -6313, place the supports at the elbow
intersection (no offset). Define the support like this:

15. Next you are going to add some support welds, right click on the support and select Add >
Support Weld
16. Define the support weld like shown:
17. Repeat for all 3 supports

18. Next you are going to place messages, select the Place Info icon

20. Place the message on all three vertical valves
Note the $ symbol, this will make a line return on the generated drawing like shown below:
21. Now you will add a reference dimension, select the Reference Dimension icon
22. Place the Reference Dimension on the flange face

24. Next you are going to generate the Spools and Isometrics, select Generate Spools.

26. Generate the isometrics using the Final-Weld-Box style

28. Finally you are going to save, close and check in the SG-T2, select File > Close

30. As a final check, view the Workflow Database

Lab 3 – Material Editor
1. Start the Material Editor
2. Create a new database
3. Define the database as shown below:
4. The database will be empty, select Insert > New Material to start adding data using the
Material Builder

5. Expand the tree list for Supports and select Support
6. Define the item code, description and skey as shown
7. Add the following sizes – 4”
8. Select Add to update the database
9. Add a further pipe support, define it like shown

10. Select Add to update the database
11. Next you are going to add a bolt, select the Bolt component type in the tree list and
define the bolts like shown
12. Select Add to update the database
13. Save the changes
14. You will be prompted to supply a name and location from the saved database, browse
to “C:\\SampleIsoDir\\S5Tutorial\\Data\\Materials” and call the database “Training.mdb”.

You are now going to add some welds, this can be done quickly by using the Auto Create function, select Material > Auto Create > Welds
15. Select all the weld types and define a root gap of 0mm, we don’t actually need all the
welds but this will show how quickly all welds can be created.

16. Select Generate to create the welds.
17. Close the Material Builder and close the Material Editor program.
The new database must be referenced in the project; this is done using the I-Configure program
18. Start I-Configure
19. Select the S5Tutorial project and select the Project Defaults icon

20. Change the Material Database so it references the new database

21. Select OK to update the Project Defaults 22. Close I-Configure
You are now going to use the database in Spoolgen
23. Start Spoolgen
24. Import and check out SG-T3.idf
25. Right click on the existing support and select “Change Material”
