Abortion is the termination of a foetus when it is in the womb. Currently, abortion is legal in America, Britain and most of Western Europe, and many people believe that it should remain legal. They believe that a woman should be in control of her body and should have the right to choose if she wants a baby or not. However there are also many people who believe that abortion is wrong and that a woman should not have the right to kill another human being even if it is not yet born.
This is one of the most discussed topics at the moment. There are two main groups in this argument; Pro-Life supporters who believe that the foetus has as much right to life as everyone else. They want abortion to be banned as they believe that killing a foetus is murder. Conversely, Pro-Choice advocates maintain that the woman should have a right to choose if she wants to give birth as it is her body and her life.
There are many reasons for someone to have an abortion for example the woman could be too young or she might feel that she does not want to take on the responsibility of looking after a child as it grows up and goes through all his or her problems. If she were still at school it would ruin her chance of a good education and possibly of a
These years, one of the harshest debates in the U.S.A. was about abortion. Indeed, the prolifers that is to say the antiabortion forces have built a powerful lobby which is able to influence the policy of some states and even of the federal administration.
That s why lots of bills were drafted in order to restrict or disallow abortions.
So we can wonder if abortion should be banned or if we ought to restrict it.
In fact it seems that for many reasons we have to keep on performing abortion but for many others we have to restrict it.
First of all, we can say that everything indicates that abortion shouldn t be banned in the U.S.A. or anywhere.
The most obvious feature is that we must leave the decision to the mother. Indeed, in most cases the women who are pregnant and who want to get an abortion are unsuited for motherhood or unready because they are too young. In support of this statement we have to precise that in majority, abortions are teenage abortions. When you are 16 or 17 years old, it is a bit too early to have a baby, which is a big responsibility for a girl, who keep on going to school and who knows nothing about life and its troublles. Moreover, the father, who is as young as the mother, often leaves her alone because he is scared. And after all every people and more precisely every woman have the right to control her life and her body. What s more, the mother must have a say in the decision, above all in the case of rape or incest. It stands to reason that a woman who is
waiting for a child conceive in rape or in incest must have the right to resort to abortion; it is obvious that she deserves protection and that she have already suffered enough without keeping an unwanted, an undesired child who was conceived during a bad experience.
Besides, if abortion were banned, the situation would be worse. In fact, what matters here is to understand that even we outlaw abortion, it will continue to be preformed even if it is quite sure that liking abortions will stop. This being so, women will continue to get abortion, but there it will be illegal abortions. Mothers will have the choice between self-abortion and getting abortion by a backstreet abortionist. Thus the only consequence of disallowing abortion is bungled abortions and maybe failed abortions. That s why, here w
Should Late-Term Abortion Be Banned? One of the most ethical controversial issues been debated now in United States is whether late- term abortion should be banned or not. Most people argued that it is proper to ban late-term abortion. They believe that it is un-ethical and a murder of an unborn child not a right of freedom of choice. It is an immoral act and violates the social and religious norms. On the other hand some people argued that late-term abortion should not be banned because it is necessary to terminate a fetus when the life of the woman is in danger as a result of complicated pregnancy; or when pregnancy result from incest or rape and the woman may be late in finding out that she is pregnant. Late-term abortion is also favored when the fetus is genetically defect to avoid bringing a child in the world to face major medical abnormalities which will be very problematic to the mother. DISCUSSION This paper will focus the discussion on the supporting side that late-term abortion should be banned. As mentioned earlier, late term abortion should be banned because it is ethically an immoral act, an act of murder and social norm deviant behavior. It involves unsafe procedure that could result in the woman loosing her life or becobecome deformed. It can put a woman in a risk of many mental health problems such as depression and feelings of guilt after the abortion. Most abortions are performed after twenty-eighth week, which is reasonable age for viability. According to some doctors, after twenty-eight weeks a child is capable of breathing with or without ventilator. And any abortion from then on is late and illegal Hadley,J. 1996. Late term abortion is a gruesome murder and violates the moral ethics law. The procedure involves the inhumane act of extracting a fetus feet from the womb and through the birth canal until all but it s head is exposed. Then, the tip of surgical scissor is thrust into the base of the fetus skull, a Suction Catheter is inserted through the opening and the brain is removed. What
a cruel and hard–hearted act. No wonder why Pope John Paul II described abortion as simply the murder of defenseless unborn child and not a civil liberty question as many contended (Doeglinger;, Richard 1994). He also stated that it is not possible to speak of the right to choose when a moral evil is involved. What happened to the commandment “Thou shall not kill” Exodus (20:117) Most people who favor late term abortion argue that a fetus is not a human being as a result a woman has the right to do what she pleases with her fetus and should not be considered as a murderer. The Pro-life advocates who are against late-term abortion argued that life begins at conception. At six weeks the fetus heart begins to beat and all the major organs have developed. In that case, any action deliberately taking to abort the fetus is ethically wrong and is considered as murder. An unwanted child is a pitiful thing, the thought of terminating something that if allowed to run its natural course, would result in the birth of a human being that will bring joy to most families. The Pro-abortionist focused only on a women s right to choose and all the social problems i
Thesis Statement: Abortion, the termination of pregnancy, has been a social problem and political debate in our society resulting in a standstill towards progressing towards a solution. I. Abortion is an intense debate in our society.
A. Abortion is the removal of a fetus from the uterus before it can survive on its own.
B. Abortions can be performed throughout a woman's pregnancy. II. The debate between the feminists and the pro-lifers is an
A. A new wave of feminism emerged in the 1960s.
B. Pro-lifers believe that it is unjust to take another's life.
III. Unintended pregnancies can result from the failure of or the failure to use contraception.
A. Condoms are undesirable and not always effective.
B. The birth-control pill is highly effective when taken correctly but still runs a risk of failure.
IV. Abortion now has a place on television and in music.
V. I am strongly against abortion and feel that no one has the right to take another's life unless the mother's life is in danger.
A. To solve this social issue, a law should be set to make abortions illegal except in the case that the mother's life is and should have professionals to confide in.
A new wave of feminism emerged in the 1960s. Many new feminist groups, for example, the National Organization for Women (NOW), began to form insisting that abortion was a woman's right. This "woman's liberation" called for a new sexual freedom for women where they no
longer had to interrupt their careers and lives to raise children. Many doctors refused to do the procedure so many of the organizations learned how to perform abortions themselves and administered them without physicians. Most of these feminists argue that a fetus is just a "mass of cells" and is not alive until it comes out of the mother's uterus in birth. In 1973, in the United States, a famous Roe v. Wade decision legalized on demand abortion throughout the first three months of a pregnancy. Ever since, there has been a vicious debate between supporters of and those against a liberalized abortion policy.
I am strongly against abortion and feel that no one has the right to take away another's life. I do, however, feel that if the mother's life is in danger that all of the precautionary steps should be taken to prevent having to use abortion, but if that is the only way to save the mother's life, then an abortion should be performed. I do not believe in the selfish reasons of taking another's life especially due to the lack of judgment on the parents' actions.
As early as the times of the Ancient Egyptians, people looked for a way to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. Today, abortion is an intense debate in our society. Should a person be able to take another's life? Isn't it considered murder if the person is already 'alive'?
