A couple had two little boys, ages eight and ten. The two boys were extremely mischievous(调皮的,恶作剧的). They were afraid nothing or nobody. They were always getting into trouble and their parents could be confident

that if any mischief took place in their town, their two young sons were involved in some way. The parents were at their wit’s end(智穷力竭) as to what to do about their son’s behaviour.

The parents had heard that a clergyman(牧师)in town had been successful in disciplining children in the past, so they went to see him, and he agreed to give it his best shot. He asked to see the boys individually, so the eight-year-old was sent to meet with him first. The clergyman sat the boy down and asked him sternly(严厉地),“Where is God?”

The boy didn’t answer, so the clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner tone, “Where is God?”

Again the boy made no attempt to answer, so the clergyman raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy’s face, “WHERE IS GOD?”

At that, the boy dashed out of the room, ran directly home, and slammed(猛然关上) himself in his closet. His older brother followed him into the closet and said, “What happened?”

The younger brother replied, “We are in BIG trouble this time. God is missing and they think we did it!” 56、From the first paragraph, we know . A、the parents didn’t love the two boys. B、they wanted to ask him to teach their sons. C、the clergyman let their sons make trouble. D、the clergyman had punished their son on no reason. 58、When the clergyman asked “Where is God”, . A、the boy didn’t know what’s the meaning of the words.

B、the boys didn’t listen to him attentively. C、the boy answered him clearly and correctly. D、the boys didn’t know what the clergymen really meant. 59、Why did the clergyman raise his voice again and again? A、Because the boy made him more and more angry. B、Because the parents asked him to do so.

C、Because the clergyman wanted to frighten the boy. D、Because the boy didn’t answer him clearly. 60、Why did the little boy shut himself in the closet?

A、Because he was afraid of “the coming things”. B、Because he was afraid of their parents. C、Because he was afraid of the clergyman. D、Because he was afraid that “God is missing”.

People who breathe infected air from a TB patient can become infected with the tuberculosis(肺结核) bacteria(细菌). However, most people with active tuberculosis do not expel (驱逐,逐出)very many TB bacteria. So, the spread of the disease usually does not happen unless a person spends a large amount of time with a TB patient. Those most at risk are family members, friends and people who live or work closely with a patient.

Tuberculosis can attack any part of the body. However, the lungs are the most common targets(目标) of the bacteria. People with the disease show several signs. They may expel air from the lungs suddenly with an explosive(爆炸性的) noise. This kind of cough continues for a long period of time. People with a more severe case(病例) of tuberculosis also may cough up blood.

People with the disease often have high body temperatures. They suffer what are called night sweats, during which their bodies release large amounts of water through the skin. TB victims also are tired all the time. They are not interested in eating. So their bodies lose weight.

One thing that is especially dangerous about TB is that people with moderate signs of the disease may not know they have had it. They may spread the disease to others without even knowing it. So, it is very important for people to get tested for tuberculosis.

B、cough or even cough with blood, night sweat, and eating too much C、cough, fever, feeling tired, night sweat, losing weight D、cough, fever, feeling tired, night sweat, eating too much

64、Why may some TB patients spread the disease to others without even knowing it?

A、Because there is no sign in the early stage of the disease. B、Because these patients don’t show any signs of the disease.

C、Because these patients’ signs of the disease are too weak to be noticed. D、Because these patients don’t know how the disease spreads between people.

The English are proud of their well-mannered and courteous(有礼貌的) behaviour. After living in London for many years, I have found the answer to how they became that way.

I remember clearly, when I was at primary school, I was taught good manners before anything else!

“Please” and “Thank you” were the most common words in the manners class. There was even a reward system where the politest child would receive a badge every week for being nice to the rest of the class.

As I grew older, I was given PSHE, or “physical and social health” lessons. These were used to teach teenagers how to behave in the adult world. They taught us how to deal with issues like money, responsibility, and relationships with other people. This helped us to grow into better people. In a way, the lessons taught us how to be more polite.

One of the topics that came up in these lessons was the issue of the “dreaded” opposite sex. I remember how all the boys giggled and laughed at the very thought of having a girlfriend or even speaking to one. The teachers soon taught us (boys) to respect the girls in our class and treat them with dignity(尊重). No doubt this advice helped us in later life-it made sure that all the boys were courteous to women. My friends have used this information to help their social lives successfully.

I feel that being good mannered has become a part of English culture. Their good manners even attract tourists from all around the world! Many of them flock to see the Queen’s Guards at Buckingham Palace (白金汉宫), who are famous for being polite and professional. 65、What is discussed in this passage?

A、The manners class. B、The way of being polite and courteous.

C、English culture. D、The reward system for being polite and courteous. 66、According to the passage, being polite and courteous should . A、receive a badge every week

B、know how to deal with relationships with other people

67、It can be learned from the text that in the English primary school . A、the students can learn good manners first

B、the students can learn good manners and the knowledge of texts at the same time C、the students can learn the knowledge of texts first. D、the students are famous for being polite and professional. 68、From the passage, we know the author is . A、English B、American C、Chinese D、not an English

D

At present, there are five network firms-China Telecom, China Unicom, Jitong Communications, China Netcom and China Mobile that are allowed to operate IP services in China. Each company has its advantages in service.

Charge

As the Ministry of Information Industry coordinates, the charges of IP calls of the five companies are the same, 0.30 yuan per minute for DDD calls, 4.80 yuan for IDD calls, 2.50 yuan for calls from the mainland to Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, and 1.50 yuan from Shenzhen to HK, Zhongshan and Zhuhai to Macao. IP callers don’t enjoy discounts on holidays.

Range

China Telecom has the widest coverage. All cities in China with telephone access and most countries in the world are open to China Telecom’s IP card.

China Unicom’s IP card can reach 29 cities nationwide and more than 130 countries and regions worldwide. Jitong IP can access 12 cities in China, 70 countries and regions worldwide.

China Netcom’s IP card reach 14 cities in China, 149 countries and regions in the world.

China’s Mobile’s IP card is open only six cities nationwide but can access more than 200 countries and regions worldwide.

Voice quality

China Telecom realizes its IP service by the public Internet, therefore net congestion and voice delay may sometimes disturb conversations. The other four companies have their data networks, which help to increase transmission speeds and improve voice quality.

Other service

China Telecom, Jitong and China Mobile offer account transfer services. Users can transfer the remaining sum of money on one card to another card.

Jitong and Netcom link their services with their bank cards. One can enjoy IP’s service without an IP card. Bank card users can make IP phone calls with their bank card numbers, so they needn’t buy new IP cards and remember new number again and again.

As for customer service, China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile provide free hot line service, while Jitong and Netcom charge for their service.

69、Which of the following is mentioned in the passage?

A、China Unicom charges IDD calls more than the other four companies. B、China Mobile’s coverage is the least of the five firms.

C、China Telecom access many more cities nationwide than the other four. D、China Netcom is the only one to be allowed to operate IP service. 70、When enjoying IP service, . Dear Sir:

The majority of your readers must have been surprised and shocked to read a letter from Mr. Hogg, published in last Wednesday’s Herald. Mr. Hogg seems to think that his own convenience and that of motorists in general are the only things that matter in our city.

I would have more sympathy with Mr. Hogg if he just made suggestions to improve the situation. No doubt his problems would be partly solved if the local government built a multi-storey car park in the city center, instead of encouraging motorists to use public transport. All the same, judging from the tone of Mr. Hogg’s letter, I suspect that motorists who are so careless of pedestrians(行人) safety that they would rather park their cars on the pavement(人行道) than hold up the traffic would probably be too lazy to use a multi-storey car park if they had to walk a few hundreds yards to their destination afterwards.

My main reason for writing, however, is much more important. Does Mr. Hogg realize that, according to figures

issued by the Department of Transport, 13,000 people were knocked down in Britain last year because of cars being illegally parked either on the pavement or on crossings? In fact, although the total pedestrian casualty rate has fallen over the last ten years, there has been an increase in accidents caused when pedestrians have to step out into the road to avoid parked cars on the pavement and cannot see oncoming traffic.

I cannot share Mr. Hogg’s view that the government has paid little attention to “long-suffering motorists”; and I think the punishment for dangerous parking should be made severe enough to stop all motorists from breaking the law in this way.

A. Walker,

Proudfoot Lane, Carchester

72、The letter above is written in answering to the letter by . A、an editor B、a certain Mr. Hogg C、some readers D、some motorists 73、The topic for the two letters is .

A、parking problems in the city center B、building a multi-storey car park in the city center C、public transport D、the increase in accidents caused by parked cars on the pavement 74、What Mr. A. Walker does want to make known in his letter is that . A、the total pedestrian casualty rate has fallen B、careless parking may cause serious traffic accidents C、the convenience of motorists in general matters much D、the safety of pedestrians matters little.

75、In Mr. A. Walker’s opinion, severer punishment should be given to . A、all the careless motorists B、all the law breakers

C、all who step out into the road D、all who do dangerous parking

On April,24th,2009, Swine flu broke out in Mexico. Until September,25th , this kind of disease has spread almost all over the world. It is also confirmed that there have been 198 cases in Fujian province. There is no doubt that everybody should know more about influenza A.

Firstly, influenza A symptoms are similar to regular flu symptoms. That is, if you suffer a sharp increase in body temperature, headaches, muscular pains and breathing problems, you’d better go to see a doctor as soon as possible.

Secondly, how does it spread? It can be infected from pig to human or from person to person. In terms of person-to-person way, it ’s mainly transmitted by breath and body touch.

Finally, to protect yourself from the H1N1 swine flu viruses, we should form a good habit of washing our hands more often. Besides, ensuring enough sleep and taking more exercise can also benefit us.
