I have known Ting for a long time. She was a friend of mine in high school. Ting used to see me as her best friend in my class because, as she said, it was easy to be friends with me. Therefore, when we had time in school, she often came to me and we would talk about many things. Though I didn’t have special feelings about this friend, I was fine with this because I didn’t see the reason why I should say ―no‖ to a friend I didn’t hate.

But there was a while when she came to me, and usually said nothing meaningful.

I started to feel tired and then tried not to meet her. After that she never came to me. Though guilty, I started to feel free about my life and never thought of anything about her feeling.

After a month or two, I heard from other friends that Ting’s father had passed away six months before. I was so shocked! Then I suddenly realized why Ting had often come to me but said nothing special. She needed my company (陪伴). I felt so bad about myself that I went to find her the next day. But I only found that she had moved away to another place.

At that time, I found myself so selfish that I only thought of myself but didn’t even try to ask a friend what happened in her life.

Though the ways of teaching have come a long way, the ways of communicating between teachers and students are almost the same. But now, a European country is trying to change that by building schools that have no classrooms, no subject lessons and best of all, no grades.

The idea behind the special school is that children are creative. And researchers also think that kids’ learning and ideas are as important as those of the CEO of Google, so why not give them a similar environment? Kids may be successful in such an environment.

To make kids more creative, the schools are built with special learning areas instead of traditional classrooms. And even the lessons are taught in a special way, with mobile phones and computers.

There is no ―right‖ or ―wrong‖ kind of education. The school believes that everything is a learning experience, whether it is about a serious science project or making a movie inside the school’s recording studio.

One of the special schools opened in August, 2011. It has five learning areas. The Cave is a secluded place where students fix their attention on individual (个人的)

projects without being bothered (打扰). The Lab is a place where students can do all kinds of experiments and test their ideas. Kids can work in groups in the same projects in The Camp Fire. The Show Off is where kids can show their inventions. And if the kids need a rest, they can visit The Watering Hole, which has all kinds of fun activities.

Sounds great? And the coolest thing is that the school is free! I hope more schools like this will appear in the world! 33. What is the idea behind the school? A. The children are creative. B. All the students need to be taught. C. All the students must be successful. D. All the students must have high grades.

In today’s Internet age, the need for online games continues to grow. There are online computer game centers in many cities and towns throughout Asia. Facing the pressures of school and life, people like to relax in the virtual (虚拟的) world, expecting a diversion from these problems. Often, however, they can lead to problems and unhealthy addictions (成瘾).

This is most clearly seen in the example of South Korea. The country has the world’s highest percentage of high-speed internet services. It also has a large number of online game players and related problems. In 2002, a young man died while playing online games. He had been playing almost nonstop for 86 hours at an Internet café. Another young man killed his sister after becoming confused (困惑的) between the online world and real life. A 12-year-old boy stole US $16,000 from his father and ran away from home. He did this to continue playing an online game. Such problems, however, don’t just happen in South Korea. They are spreading to other parts of Asia, as well.

What kinds of people develop online game addiction? What does the problem look like? Dr. SueHuei Chen, a clinical psychologist (临床心理学家), researches Internet addiction. She discovered some signs of at-risk persons such as lacking
