A

依据文章第一自然段第3行“It is certainly not endless hours spent in activities about reading..”(教学生如何阅读当然不是带着学生花费大量的时间去一点一点地读)。

依据文章第二自然段第2行开始的句子:“The function of teaching is to create the conditions and the climate that will make it possible for children to devise the most efficient system for teaching themselves to read”(教学的任务是为学生能够找出自己最有效的自学阅读的方法创造条件和氛围),B项符合上述意思,为正确答案。

28.B。 该词出现在第三自然段最后一句“process is not open to public scrutiny”,考生可从该句的上文作出推测。最明显的提示出现在第二自然段最后一句“Teaching is also a public activity;it can be seen and observed”所以,scrutiny最可能的词义应该是observation,故B项正确。

29.A。 依据文章第四自然段、第五自然段所提供的信息,特别是第5段第3行“Learning to read is made easier when teachers create an environment where children are given the opportunity to solve the problem of learning to read by reading”(当教师们创造了一种环境,使孩子们有机会自己通过阅读解决所遇到的问题时,学习阅读就变得容易多了),可以看出A项与之最为相近。

30.C。 依据文章第一自然段第4行“reading cannot be taught directly and…”

通过文章第五自然段中“They hope the children could build up connections which could later become

useful in their business operations,” 一句话可知。

通过文章最后一自然段第一句话“At present, Chinese Taibei doesn?t recognize diplomas earned in the Chinese mainland nor help with any inquiries about studying there.”

根据第4自然段“The NHS is the biggest employer in Europe…”

What should people really do encourage their kids to concentrate their time and energy on studying lessons and doing well? People?s opinions differ from each other about this problem.

Some schools, teachers and parents give their students or kids money as a stimulating means in order to encourage them to do what they should do effectively, this phenomenon is common in recent years and it is welcome by most of the young. I don?t think it is an effective way, on the contrary it may lead to the opposite result.

My parents and family often tell me some encouraging stories in ancient or modern times such as Li Bai, Zhou Enlai and so on. Each time I make a little progress in my study, they always praise me with open arms, and whenever I am confronted with difficulties my family always stand my side. I feel comfortable and warm in my heart for what they do for me. I make up my mind that I?ll live up to my family and my homeland.

I think, as a student myself, school and parents should educate their kids through teaching them to study for their family and their motherland rather than giving them money to letr them passively do something. Only by building up some noble and

7

long-range aims can they study on their own initiative.

The passage is mainly about parents give money to their children so that they can show up or get good grades recently by

the way of taking the example of Ethan and his mother.

Ethan?s mother failed to stop Ethan watching TV by rewarding him with cash. This kind of action is common, and even

become a trend, which is concerned by many adults.

Form where I stand, I am not in favour of encouraging kids with cash just because they have got good marks.

My parents used to encourage me like this. Whenever I made progress in my studies, they bought me my favourite books,

which not only made me motivated to learn, but also helped me get along well with my studies.

To get kids motivated to learn, I think we should not treat every child in the same way. To some students, oral praise is

essential. Don?t save the praise for only the top score. If possible, involve other adults in praising them. However, this method may not work well with other kids. May what is more important to them is to watch a movie or go on a trip together with their parents. It just depends.

A

32.答案 A

33.答案 A

English-language senior business editors, senior copy editors, copy

editors and graphic designers

Writing snappy headlines

39.答案 A

D

41. 答案 A

文章第一段第二句指出“...little attention has been given to ... the poor”, 即很少有人注意这些

43.答案 A

根据第二段最后一句“...allows the haves to increase their control

on global markets...”

Yet this leads to long-term dependency...

本题较为简单,通过文中措辞,如第一段“little attention has...for

the poor”;第二段“Economists are only now realizing...”;第三段“For them the result is

unstable.”

Love and Concern Make Ideal Relationship

Students are becoming unwilling to tell their teachers of their inner thoughts because they are not equal in position and teachers lay too much emphasis on the academic performances of the students.

While some students might have doubts, I am willing to share my inner thoughts with my teachers. They show love and concern for their students and are good listeners. I always find it easy to seek support and advice from them, from which I benefit and learn a lot.

10

In this case, an ideal relationship between teachers and students is very important. In my opinion, this relationship should be one filled with love, care and understanding, in which teachers and students show respect for each other and exchange ideas freely. To build a relationship of this kind, teachers should become friends of students while students ought to place more trust in their teachers and give voice to their feelings frankly. Only by joint efforts can we enjoy a warm relationship between teachers and students.

依据文章第二自然段第2行?...an infrared scanner measured the heat emitted by crops. The data were transformed into a color-coded map showing where plants were running‘fevers’?,说明植物在发?

were running ‘fevers’.Farmers could then spot spray,...? 显然,选项D(确定有问题的地域)为最佳选项。

28.A。 Farmers could then spot-spray, using 50 to 70 percent less pesticide than they otherwise would?(采取点喷,农民们可以节省平时用量的50%至70%的杀虫剂),选项A符合题意。 29.C。 依据文章第三自然段的第1句?The bad news is that Palely’s company closed down in 1984, after only three years.Farmers resisted the new technology and long-term backers were hard to find?,从中可以看出红外线扫描技术应用于农业遇到了一些问题,原因有两个:一是农民对新技术的抵制,二是难以找到长期赞助商。文章中还有一处明显的提示出现在最后一句:?But only if Palely finds the financial backing which he failed to obtain 10 years ago?.

依据文章第三自然段第2行?But with the renewed concern about pesticide on produce, and refinements

In bringing up children, every parent watches eagerly the child's acquisition of each new skill,既然是每位父母都会这样做,那么这种做法在 父母中就是普遍的,故选B。 C。sets up dangerous states of worry in the child是由hurry the child beyond his natural learning rate引起的,? D。will make him lose interest in learning new things是由a child is left alone too much, or without any learning opportunities引起的。

It is often tempting to hurry the child beyond his natural learning rate, but this can set Up dangerous feelings of failure and states of worry in the child,说明在孩子成长过程中,父母不能拔苗助长。 On the other hand, though,if a child is left alone too much,or without any learning opportunities,he loses his natural enthusiasm for life and his desire to find out new things for himself,说明对孩子太放任自流同样 不利。

四个选项的意思分别是:A. opinion (观点);B. punishment(惩罚);C. bebaviour(行为);D.instruction(说教,源于instruct)。 Also, parents should realize that ?example is better than precept?.If they are not sincere and do not practice what they preach(说教)…

41.A。 文章中有?millions of Americans who work and live under stress worried over the reports?,表明这一阶段的研究给人带来更多的是担扰,并且从一些杂志用的标题上都可以显示出来。

43.D。 根据文章第二自然段中?it only shows how much you have to deal?

The author relates to us how he realized the importance of being likable through his experience. Besides, Carnegie?s book

confirms him of the essence of being likable: modesty, sincerity, honesty and helpfulness. (32 words)

I remember clearly how I change my attitude towards the most popular girl, Cathy. At first, I was jealous of her because of

her popularity. But one incident made me admire her. As a guy pursuing uniqueness, I always wore a strange hat to school, which aroused the others? dislike. But she wrote a diary posted on our wallpaper to support my eccentricity. In it, she expressed her understanding and asked our classmates to focus more on my genuineness than my strange appearance. Since then, I regard her as my confidant.

It is evident that to be a likable person, one needs to show interest and understanding towards others. First, be concerned

with what others are passionate about. Then another significant quality for a popular person is to remember what?s important to people. In addition, to gain likeability, one should not grudge complimentary words to friends. (146 words)

Competition enables people to get more achievements while cooperation is good to enhance team work and promote the understanding. Both are very important for us when we want to do something well.

When it comes to competition and cooperation, some people always emphasize competition but neglect cooperation. Because they believe only competition can help them defeat their counterparts. Besides, they think competition is the only way to lead to success.

But some others think cooperation is as important as competition. They think, on one hand, cooperation can build up trust between each other; on the other hand, cooperation can turn a small and weak business into a big and strong one.

In my opinion, both competition and cooperation are essential to success and thus should be emphasized at the same time. In order to succeed in life, we must learn to be both competitive and cooperative. The most important thing is know when to be competitive and when to be cooperative

Good friends are playing a more and more important role in our daily life. They help us a lot on our path to success, which is beneficial to all of us. This article tells us how to make friends and why to avoid bad friends.

Everyone needs friends and we all have friends. Friends are like small boats that take us to safe harbors. Friends are like trees that give us shade in hot summer days. No one can live happily without friends. In the company of good friends, we?ll never feel lonely.

With the popularity of the Internet, more and more people begin making friends online. Chatting online, people can express their feelings and opinions more freely and even get help with their foreign language studies. However, others think making friends online is a waste of time and money. What?s worse, they may even be cheated.

In my opinion, we shouldn't spend too much time making friends online or easily believe in the words of someone we don't know about. We should place our study, health and safety before other things

The author is an active and hardworking girl with strong will. She strongly holds the opinion that a girl can also do as well as a boy, which we can see from her experience in the college.

Women are playing an important part in society today. In many countries, more and more women are acting as workers, scientists, and even leaders. Almost all jobs which men can do are done successfully by women.

With the changes in their social role, women?s position in family has been improved as well. Husband and wife are now equal in the family. They deal with daily problems and share happiness together.

However, some people still think men are superior to women in many ways and men should enjoy more rights than women. For example, few women are allowed to attend some important international meetings.

Personally, I firmly believe that women should share the same rights as men, because they are equally important in all human activities

23

5. C。这里教员建议要做以下几件事情:to make apologize to people“向人们道谦”,(to) take some actions right any wrong doings“采取措施纠正错误的所作所为”。

12. D。由we had a good laugh 可知 Sheriff 和 Jimmy 进行的是热烈的(lively)讨论。

The mouse is a most effective device used by people to communicate with a computer.

For most people, it?s almost impossible to operate a computer without a mouse, let alone surf the Internet. A well-chosen

mouse, which is really handy, flexible and convenient in controlling the screen, enables us to edit text, browse web page and download what we want, with the functions of inserting, deleting, moving and copying. It can even bring us a flood of music, movies and PC games. However, relying too much on mouse clicking makes us lazier and less creative both mentally and physically. Too much ready information on our fingertips leaves little room for knowledge pursuing and too many ready answers make us less excited in finding truth.

Take care of ourselves! The Chinese Education Ministry has paid close attention to self-protection education among us school students because some knowledge about self-protection may help one survive in case of emergency.

In my opinion, no lesson is more important than the one on personal safety. Life is fragile but can be strengthened when one is armed with enough knowledge on how to protect oneself from danger.

As middle school students, we should gain some knowledge about safety. Firstly, we should always obey the traffic rules. When we go across the road, we must wait for the green light. When we go to school or go home by bike, we should go along the right side and should not ride at a high speed. Secondly, in order to avoid fire in our dormitory, we should not use any

electric device without permission. Thirdly, we should not climb the fence of the school in case that we might hurt ourselves.

It is high time that we should be aware of the importance of self-protection. And only with a good sense of self-protection can we live a safe and happy life!

Inform“通知”;conceive“想象”;indicative“指示的”;characteristic“特点、特性”。

in turn依次;nevertheless然而;as a result结果。

Children who observe chiefly negative qualities in their parents…,可以看出答案。 7.

modify“修改、修饰”;give up“放弃”。

9. B influenced“受影响的”;mature“成熟的”;unique“惟一的”;independent“独立的”。句后用by…

have an effect on“对……

result“结果”;effect“影响”;scale“刻度”;cause“原因”。

Anger, a normal emotion, if not properly expressed, can be harmful to people's health. Doctors suggest that we learn to

deal with anger in a calm and reasonable way.

As we know, getting angry not only does harm to one's health but also has a bad effect on the relationship between people.

Sometimes expressing anger too strongly can lead to severe results.

However, in many cases, anger may be avoided if we can understand each other better. For instance, someone may have

done something about which you are very angry, but in fact he/she meant no harm. So it is quite unnecessary for you to get

36

angry. If someone does do some wrong, try to put yourself in his/her position and understand him/her. If you find it really necessary to express anger, try to do it in a calm, reasonable way. Remember losing your temper does good to neither you nor the other person.

The game \ To gain more profits, some players even get up at midnight to steal other?s vegetables. Some go to great lengths to list the time when others? vegetables are ripe so as to gather in their fruits. What?s more, some players spend large sum of money buying fertilizer or other things to raise the vegetables. All these strange phenomena have aroused people?s concern.

To me, the addiction to the game is just beyond my comprehension and it?s not worthwhile. Although it can relieve some pressure of study or work, it is unreasonable to spend so much time and efforts on the growth of fake vegetables. The money they earn is nothing more than a number, which can?t be used as a currency. Therefore, it is simply crazy to put your heart into the vegetables. Therefore, the game is not worth our time or efforts.

On one hand, I totally sympathize with your feelings. Everyone enters a competition with the hope to win. Perhaps it is

quite natural for you to feel this way after such a setback. But on the other hand, I think you shouldn?t place so much importance on winning. There is the saying that “it is not winning, but the taking part that counts”. Hopefully by appearing in this competition you will not only have improved your English, but will also take a more valuable lesson from it. It?s impossible to win all the time and everyone must learn to take defeat gracefully(潇洒地). Besides, you might have been worrying too much. The fact that you lost this competition won?t diminish your value as an intelligent and hard-working student in the eyes of your teachers and classmates.

So cheer up! You will find that your world is actually brighter than before.

16. has been marked。

17. situated。表示某地方位于何地时,用be situated in /on, 句中“situated…”相当于定语从句,“which was situated…”。 18. However。 19. Realizing。 20. unable。

36.A。 依据文章第3段第1行“Ask a bachelor why he resists marriage even though he finds dating to be less and less satisfying. If he is honest he will tell you that he is afraid of making a commitment”(……

依据文章最后一句“And it liberates us from envy:we now understand that all those who are always

44

having so much fun actually may not be happy at all.”

依据文章第一自然段第1句“The way people hold to the belief that a fun-filled, pain free life equals happiness actually reduces their chances of ever attaining real happiness”(人们坚持充满趣味、毫无痛苦的生活就等于幸福这一信条实际上减少了他们获得真正幸福的可能性)。再依据文章最后一句“…all those who are always having so much fun actually may not be happy at all”(……

40.A。 作者的意图出现在第一自然段最后一句:“But in fact, the opposite is true:more often than not things that lead to happiness involve some pain” (但事实上,导致你幸福的事情多半伴随着痛苦),故选项A符合题意。

D

43.A。 根据短文倒数第二自然段所述“The idea behind the university?s prototypes is to create ?good enough? bridges for cross-cultural exchanges that are becoming more common in the world.”

Increased College Enrollment

The college enrollment has risen steadily over the past years, which acts as a way to cultivate more well-educated people to serve the society. However, people?s opinions on it are divided.

On the whole, increased college enrollment is just like a double-edged sword, which has both benefits and potential shortcomings.

People who are in favor of the increased enrollment rate subscribe to the view that it not only relieves the high pressure on parents and students to some extent, but is also a suitable tool to raise the educational level in our country. What?s more, it can also help to cultivate more young labors with specialties.

On the contrary, there are also some people who are opposed to this policy, because they fear that it will lead to the shortage of teaching staff and educational facilities. Worse still, increased enrollment rate will intensify the already-fierce competition in job market.

In my point of view, this tendency should be continued, as we need more capable people to contribute to the fast-growing economy. But in the meantime, the government and universities ought to invest more to guarantee the quality of education.

Study can change us a lot

A college student, who has no confidence with the college education and his future, thinks that study is useless because he is afraid that after spending so much money on college education, he cannot even find a job in the future.

The student?s idea seems to be right but he is certainly wrong. It?s also pitiful that many students of Senior Three in Chongqing refused to have the college entrance examinations after so many years of hard work. It?s true that many Chinese students are very tired under this educational system. With the purpose of entering a so-called good university, we have no choice but to study day and night .However, I intend to raise some doubts against the view that it is useless to study. The influence of higher education is always unobtrusive .As we know, study is a process which can raise your awareness and improve your inner quality and character. Some students think that what we are learning now can?t mostly be used at work in the future and it?s very difficult for an undergraduate to find a job. But I want to ask them how they can find a good job if they haven?t been educated at all.

In fact, study is also a challenge. When we challenge it, we benefit a lot from it, which can make us perseverant, courageous and strong-minded. In conclusion, I want to emphasize my opinion that we must believe knowledge is power. Study can change us a lot!

16. that / which。引导定语从句并在从句中作主语,先行词是a sentence or a phrase,指物,故用关系代词that / which.。 17. faced。表示“面对困难”是“be faced with”。

18. themselves。 19. to work。因make efforts后接to do sth. 20. but。

21. to。因devote oneself to (介词)… 22. where。

23. confidence。

24. an。 25. one。替代“a+单数可数名词(a motto)”,用one。
