New findings suggest that brainy card games such as contract bridge may temporarily (临时地)raiseproduction of a key blood cell including in fighting off illness. After 90 minutes of play, bridge players had increased levels of immune(免疫)cells, according to research reported last week.
A researcher, Diamond, studied bridge players from a women’s bridge club. She chose
bridge players because the game includes skills stimulating(刺激)a part of the brain called the dorsolateral cortex. Earlier animal research suggests that this part of the brain may play a role in the immune system.
The findings are based on blood samples drawn from 12 women players. Their blood samples showed a rise in levels of white blood cells called T cells after they played bridge for 90 minutes. T cells are produced by the thymus gland(胸腺)and used by the immune system against diseases. The T cell count jumped significantly in eight of the bridge players, and slightly in the other four. The findings contribute to the field of neuroimmunology(神经免疫学),whose name reflects the fact that the nervous system and the immune system are not considered separate and isolated systems. What isn’t clear is whether the help to the immune system from an activity like contract bridge is lasting or temporary. It is also not clear whether the increase in T cells could finally be targeted against special illnesses.
60.Playing bridge can help one to fight off diseases because it can . A.raise production of a key blood cell B.make people joyful C.aid digestion D.make break away from the bad habits 61.Diamond chose to study bridge players for the research because . A.the players are good friends of hers B.she loves playing bridge C.this game stimulates a part of the brain that has something to do with immune system D.she is a clever manager, who operates her bridge club well 62.A T cell is cell. A.a brain B.a white blood C.a red blood D.a kind of dangerous blood 63.Which of the following is TRUE according to this article? A.The immune system and the brain system used to be considered separate and isolated
systems.
B.The help to the immune system that is brought about by playing bridge can last for a long
time.
C.Cortex is a kind of blood cell.
D.The new findings are impossible.

Feel tired lately? Has a doctor said he can't find anything wrong with you? Perhaps he sent you to a hospital, but all the advanced equipment there shows that there is nothing wrong with you . Then, consider this: you might be in a state of subhealth.
Subhealth, also called the third state or gray state, is explained as a borderline(界限)state between health and disease.
According to the investigation by the National Health Organization, over 45 percent of sub-healthy people are middle-aged or elderly. The percentage is even higher among people who work in management positions as well as students around exam-week.
Symptoms include a lack of energy, depression, slow reactions, insomnia, anger, and poor memory. Other symptoms include shortness of breath, sweating and aching in the waist and legs.
The key to preventing and recovering from sub-health, according to some medical experts, is to form good living habits, alternate work and rest, exercise regularly, and take part in open air activities.
As for meals, people are advised to eat less salt and sugar. They should also eat more fresh vegetables, fruits, fish because they are rich in nutritional elements -- vitamins and other elements that are important to the body.
Nutrition experts point out that it is not good to eat too much at one meal because it may cause unhealthy changes in the digestive tract. They also say that a balanced diet is very helpful in avoiding sub-health.
64.According to this passage, which of the following is true? A.When you are in a state of sub-health, you should stay at home and keep silent. B.When you are in a state of sub-health, you should go to see a doctor and buy some
medicine.
C.When you are in a state of sub-health, you should have yourself examined in foreign
ountries.
D.When you are in a state of sub-health, you should find out the reasons and relax yourself. 65.It may be easy for middle-aged people to be in a state of subhealth because ____________. A.they have used up their energy B.they have lost their living hopes C.they have more pressure in life and work D.they begin to get older
66.The key to preventing you from falling into a state of sub-health is that you should _________. A.work hard B.sleep more C.form good living habits D.take more medicine
67.The underlined word \ A.arrange by turns B.cause to take place C.keep up D.take up

While the rest of the world carried on cycling during the 1950s and 1960s ,America forgot how; even high-school children would drive to school .Recently there has been something of a renaissance(复兴) in cycling, and in many areas it is a very useful way of getting around, especially where bike paths or bike routes have been built. You may well want to buy , hire or borrow a bike.
There are two important consequences of this earlier drop in cycling in the U.S.A. One is that many people do not to know how to cycle. That is, cyclists often behave more like Pedestrians(行人)than motorists: they ride on the sidewalk or on the wrong side of the road; they don't care for stop signs or traffic lights; they ride without lights at night; they give no hand signals .The other consequence is that cycling is regarded by many people not so much as a way of getting from one place to another but as a way of life, a form of exercise, etc. As a result, a large number of young Americans have ten-speed racing bikes. These are very high and fast and great if you are cycling long distances, riding up mountains or racing. At first , though, you may find them awkward (使用不便)for cycling in town. Sight-seeing or shopping ----they are expensive, uncomfortable and hard to control until you get used to them, and unsuitable for rough stony roads.
There are also ordinary bikes around. If you get hold one of these ,you may find that brakes work by pedaling(踩踏板)backwards. This is perhaps safer than ordinary brakes when it is wet, but it seems to be less effective. This arrangement also means you can't pedal backwards in order to get the pedals in the right place for getting on or moving off.
68.The passage gives us a brief introduction to _______________________. A.advantages of bikes B.cycling in America C.American transportation D.how to ride a bike
69.Young Americans prefer racing bikes because they_________________. A.can help keep fit B.are easy to learn C.are safer to ride D.are expensive and popular
70.Which of the following does NOT result from the early drop in cycling in the U.S.A? A.Cyclists do not care for traffic lights.
B.People ride on the wrong side of the roads.
C.Cycling is not considered a way of transportation. D.People have to pedal backwards to stop the bike.
