Although the Chinese men’s football team has got better grades in recent years, comparing with other super teams around the world, they still have a long way.

Here are some opinions:

Bloke (Australia): In Australia, I played soccer every weekend for more than 12 years and played for my school team for six years. This is the normal situation for children in Australia and America, to play lots of sports. There are more professional soccer players in Australia than in China. Put all this together and there’s no wonder that Chinese soccer isn’t developing. Chen (China): Look at the Chinese team at this Asian Cup. I didn’t expect China to reach knockout round. But they made it at top spot in the group to the quarterfinal match. Most Australian players have taken part in the World Cup and got rich experiences. Chinese men's team has tried its best and showed strength and decision. I will always be behind it. Mister Panda (France): The biggest problem of Chinese football, from my experience playing with Chinese people, is that China does not have a culture of football at all. Players are full of energy and have good skills but they are lacking(缺少) in cooperation(合作).Even if there is a player who is more likely to score, they won’t pass the ball to him, but try to score by themselves because they all want to be the star of the team. Futsanglung (UK): Good football starts at a grass roots level and will only improve in China if things start at the bottom. In the UK, and many other countries, nearly every boy kicks(踢) a ball around in the school playground and it starts from there. Unfortunately students don’t have many chances to play football in most Chinese schools. 31.In Australia, children often ▲ . A. play for school teams for12 years B. do many kinds of sports C. become professional players D. play soccer as a baby 32.According to Mister Panda’s opinion, the most important in football is that ▲ . A. children want to be the star of the team B. the players have good skills and energy C. children should exercise from early age D. the players work well in groups

33.What the people above are mainly talking about is“ ▲ .”

A. whether Chinese football can go further

B. what the problem of Chinese football is C. which country has the best football culture

D. if the problems of Chinese football can be solved

I’ve loved my mother’s desk since I was just tall enough to see above the top of it as mother sat doing letters. Standing by her chair, looking at the ink bottle, pens, and white paper, I decided that the act of writing must be the most wonderful thing in the world.

Years later, during her final illness, mother kept different things for my sister and brother. “But the desk,” she said again, “is for Elizabeth.”

I never saw her angry or cry. I knew she loved me; but she showed it in action instead of the way I wanted: heart-to-heart talks. As time passed by, a gulf opened between us.

As years passed I had my own family. I loved my mother and thanked her for our happy family. I wrote to her in careful words and asked her to let me know in any way she chose that she did forgive(原谅) me. I posted the letter and waited for her answer. None came. My hope turned to disappointment, then little interest and, finally, peace— it seemed that nothing happened. .

Now the present of her desk told, as she’d never been able to, that she was pleased that writing was my chosen work. I cleaned the desk carefully and found some papers inside —a photo of my father and a one-page letter folded and refolded many times.

Give me an answer, my letter asks, in any way you choose. Mother, you always chose the act that speaks louder than words.

34.The writer liked to stand by her mother’s chair when she was writing because ▲ . A. the writer loved the beautiful desk B. the writer liked staying with her mother C. there were many fun things on the desk D. the writer started to be interested in writing 35.“Elizabeth” refers to ▲ in the passage.

A. the writer’s mother B. the writer C. the writer’s sister D. the writer’s daughter 36.According to the passage, we know that ▲ . A. the writer’s mother didn’t give her anything

B. the writer did nothing to get her mother’s forgiveness C. the writer’s mother had read her letter many times D. the writer still didn’t get her mother’s answer finally 37.What’s the best title of the passage?

A. My letter to Mother

B. Mother and Children

C. Talks between Mother and Me D. My Mother’s Desk

C

The fact that dogs and cats dislike each other is no secret. Now the result of this new study may cause a similar feeling between the animal owners. That’s because it says that cat owners are usually smarter than dog owners.

Denise Guastello, a doctor made a survey of 600 university students. He asked them to choose

themselves as dog or cat lovers. The survey also included questions that helped the doctor decide on their personalities. When the results were examined, the doctor made the decision that cat people were cleverer than dog people.

Denise says that the results are clear because people who prefer dogs usually like being outdoors with their pets, getting along with other like-minded people. However, those prefer cats are more introverted. They would rather spend their days reading or on some other “intellectual (智力的)” activities. She believes that it is probably why they choose cats in the first place. For those who don’t believe the survey, here is some kind of sad news ---- This is not the first that researchers have made this kind of decision. A 2010 survey made by UK’s Bristol University said that “cat” people were more educated than “dog” people.

39 While they may not be as smart, their pets sure are. That was showed by a 2009 study in which cats and dogs were presented with two pieces of line, and only one line was put together with a food prize. Guess which one could get the prize? Dogs, this time! 38.What is the study mainly about?

A. Dogs and cats don’t like each other. C. Dog owners are as smart as cat owners. A. quiet and shy

B. Cat owners are smarter than dog owners. D. Dogs and cats get on well with each other.

39.The underline word “introverted” means ▲ in Chinese.

B. smart and brave C. outgoing and funny D. pretty and kind

40.Which of the following sentences can be put in the blank 39?

A. However, not all is lost for dog owners.

B. Instead, dog owners are better at getting prizes. C. Also, another study proves that cats are smarter.

D. Yet, the following study shows dogs are more educated. 41.How did the dog show it was smart in the 2009 study?

B. By catching the pieces of line. D. By learning faster than cats. D

HAVE you and your friends ever argued about what color this dress is? Just wait a minute before you start calling each other “colorblind”. According to USA Today, “no one is wrong, no one is right”, because there is real science behind why we see it differently, and having eyesight (视力) problems is not part of it.

To make it clear, the dress itself is black and blue. That is said, however, in a survey taken by a social media website Yik Yak on Feb 26,

among tens of thousands of answers, “white and gold” actually beat “black and blue” 53 percent to 47 percent, reported Forbes. Isn’t that strange?

Over millions of years, human brains have developed a certain way to always be able to tell an object’s true color even if the lighting conditions keep changing. Just imagine looking at your white shirt during a golden sunset or under a purple light. Its color actually changes but you just know that it’s white, don’t you?

This is because your brain understands how the light is influencing the color of your shirt, and so you can tell it is white.

Scientists call this “color constancy (恒定)”. It helped humans continue to live in the past.

A. By running faster than cats. C. By getting the prize on a piece of line.

“You need to know whether an apple is ripe (成熟的) to eat, whether it’s sunny or gray,” Stefano Soatto, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, told The Wall Street Journal.

Usually this system works just fine, but this situation made it harder. Everyone told the color of the dress after looking at one single image (样子) in which there were no other objects except the dress itself, giving us little information about the lighting conditions.

And here is where the disagreements began. When they see the image, some brains think that the lighting in the room is very poor, so the dress must have very bright colors, like white and gold. Some, however, think the opposite: The lighting is very strong, so the dress must be in darker colors to look the way it does in the picture.

So, there is no need to question your eyesight if you see the dress as white and gold, and those who see it as blue and black should not be smug(自满的) either. This is nothing more than an optical illusion (视错觉). And no one gets serious about those, do they? 42. From the first three paragraphs we can learn ________. A. the real colors of the dress are white and gold B. more people say that the dress is black and blue

C. those who find the dress black and gold are colorblind D. it’s normal for people to see the dress as white and gold

43. Different people see the color of the dress differently because ________. A. the lighting in the room is too poor B. the lighting in the room is too strong

C. there is not enough lighting information around the dress D. people keep seeing the dress in different lighting conditions

44. Which of the following has the similar meaning as the last sentence of the passage? A. People should know more knowledge about the color. B. People needn’t be serious about their eyesight problems. C. No one wants to argue with a friend about the color a lot. D. People don’t need to be too serious about the optical illusion. 45. The writer wants to explain ________ in the passage. A. what an optical illusion is B. what color this dress is C. the reason why people tell the color of an object differently D. how to deal with the disagreement about the color of a dress
