Character Analysis of Jane Eyre简爱的性格分析

that unfair society,she never gave up to try her best to get free,independent,fair life and true love.By unremitting eforts she finally got dignity,freedom an d turn love.

Charlotte Bronte,an English writer,was a great critical realist in the 1 9th century.She wrote lots of works in her life.―Jane' Eyre‖was her masterpiece which has attracted rea ders of generation after generation.It was a world famous nove1.W hy did it get such success?Se.callse it vividly portrayed a female in an unfair soc iety who struggled continuously for freedom,independence and equality.

The heroine of the nove1.Jane Eyre lost her parents when she was only a baby and became an orp han. She was sent into Gateshead Hall,her uncle Reed s.However,her aun t,Mrs.Reed treated her cruelly after Mr.Read had died.Jane received lots of neglect and abuse.But Jane didn t surrender.After a series of sharp conflicts with the fam ilies,Jane left Gateshead Hall and came into Lowood school,an orphan scho1.Jane spent there for six years.At first, she was a student,then a teacher.Being tired of that dull life there,Jane left Lowood and was employed as a governess of Thornfield.At Thornfield,though Jan ewas humble and plain,but the mas ter of Thomfield,Mr.Rochester still loved her because of her inteligent speaking,independent attitude and courageous behavior.Jane also loved Roehester be cause he treated her equally.They planned to marry.On?the wedding day at the church,a stranger called Mason appeared.MrMas on declared the existence of an impe diment to the marriage.He said Rochester had already married. It was fifteen years ago that Rochester married Mason s sister. Ma$on s sister was mad and locked in a room of Thornfield.Now,Jane had no choice but to leave Thornfield.

Jane roam ed for two days and was accepted by St John Rivers and his sisters. (They were later proved to be Jane s cousins).Then Jane got inheritance from her Uncle John Eyre. She shared the inheritance with her cousins.Mr.St John decided to go to India as a missionary. . He asked Jane to go with him.

Jane refused St John s suggestion of ma~iage, because she knew what St John loved only was God, not her. Finally,she seemed to heat Rochester s cal1. she returned to Thornfield. But now, Thornfield was ru ined in a big fire. Rochester s ma d wife died and Mr. Roc hester was already blind in both eyes, with only one

arln left. In spite of Roc hester s disability,Jane married him. From then on,they lived a happy life.

The novel,―Jane Eyre‖, had a profound con otation. It successfully portrayed Jane,a rebelious fema le.In order to get dignity,freedom,independence and true love,Jane tried to preserve her self—respe ct, indepe ndence and self—sufficiency at each stage of her life. struggling witIl the social prejudice and oppression.With the development of Jane s rebelious spirit, the theme of the novel was revealed clearly.

At Gateshead Hall, Jane had the first conscious ness of the

unfair society, she began to realize the impo~ance of independence. At Mrs.Reed s.Jane was an orphan without any property and had to live wi th the help of others. Under this background, everyone loked down upon her. In the face of―John s violent tyrannies,John s sisters proud indiference, his mother s aversion and the servants partiality‖, ① Jane asked herself'?W hy 1

was always sufering, always browbeaten,always abused, for ever condemned‖.

⑦Her reason said―unjust!一unjust!‖@A first angry

voice bursted out from her dep heart.Jane had always yielded to John but this time. When John be at her again, with her head broken, she attacked him vicious ly. She shouted at him, ―wicked cruel boy! You are like a murder! you are like a

slave—driver—you are like the Roman empe rors!‖@ Even when Mrs.Reed locked her in the red room,she Wash t stil obedient. Jane exposed boldly Mrs.Red s lies and hypocrisy.She said―I am not deceitful,‘‘that―you have no pity‖, that―you are deceitful‖

. ⑤ Jane suffered wreck on body and torment in spirit, her heart was filed with fury.Though her strength was weak, in the face of strong oppressors, she was considering how to attack. Due to Jane s true exposure, Mrs.Read felt afraid,Jane got a little victory in spirit.

In those days at Gateshead Hall, Jane s strong, bravery, unbending characters were expressed step by step. Her every be。 havior showed her great indignation. Isolation, poverty, disc rimination and oppression caused her to revoh the unfair society with her own way. Because of revoh, Jane was driven away from Gateshead to Lowod Institution.

Lowod Institution was a charity school for po r clergymen s daughters.Jane lived here for eight years.Her rebellious spirits became mature. She saw clearly the hypocrisy of the school an d exposed it viciously. Charity was nothing but a lie.To be frank, charity scho l was a terrible hel in men s world. Children there weren‘t supphed with enough food,clothes an d good treatment of disease . Man y of them di ed of ilness. The scho l preached love and sympathy,but it was in nanle, They had no love an d sympa— thy at all, hving in hunger and cold,children must san g psalms an d prayed for God an d thanked for oppressors. In this unfair so— ciety, Hallen, a clever, intelligent and beautiful girl received cul\, finally lost her young life. However, she had no hate to anyone.Re~gion poisoned her mind deeply.She believed in God.She spoke to Jan e― I believe God is good ,I can resign my immoral part to him without any misgiving.God is my father, God is mv friend:I 1ove him,I believe he loves me‖ . ⑥Just be.

cause of these ideas,Hallen hadn t a little rebel against that kind of cruel treatment.However,Jan e,was not like Hallen.She al— ways tried to revolt,though she was stif a child,she told Halen

―If people were always kind and obedient to those who are cruel and unjust,the wicked people would have it all their own way, they would never feel afraid, and so they would never alter, but would grow WOl'~ an d worse, when we are struck at without a reason, we should strike back again very hard; I'm sure we should— — so hard as to teach the person who stru ck us never to do it again.‖⑦ This rhythmi c and forceful speech embodied the deep oppression of bourgeoisie to the lower women and Jane s re— befious spirit. To achieve independence as an equal human. Jan e never yielded to fate and background.

At Lowood Institution,Jane learned from Hallen the impo r. tan ce of duty and se lf—control an d she also learn ed from Maria Temple the value of independence. She would rather stay there than depend on her aunt for a living. On the surface, Jane was quiet, in reality, she never chan ged her characters, a fighter a— gainst the unfair world. W hen Miss Temple left Lowood, Jane couldn‘t put up with dullness and isolation there.She looked for— ward to a new life,a wider world and a free sky. No matter what would happen in the future, she would face it bravely, she ―gemembered that real world was wide,and that a varied field of hopes an d fears, of sensations and excitement, awaited those who had courage to go forth into its expanse, to seek real knowledge of life ami dst its perils.‖⑤ The rebellious fury was burnt again. Then Jane made an advertisement and got a governess profession at Thomfield.

At Thornfield,Jane was very awake, she made her every effort to rebel against social prejudice and customs,struggling for independence and true love.Jane s spirit of rebellion and inde— pendent character were fu llv showed.Frmn the first day when she came into Thornfield to the last day when she 】eft there. Jane never gave up her dignity. She always took the governess of Adele as her j0b to support herself, remaining independent.At the beginning her attitude was defensive,reserved,not expressing her deep heart. She Was afraid something would hurt her. She was always gatting ready to revolt any attack from others, espe — ciafy the master.Later on,just because of Jane S diferent ideas

won Rochester s love. Th ey fel in deep love with each other Rochester didn t want Jane to go on working,he wished Jane be— longed to him and considered Jan e as his prope rty.Jan e reltsed his suggest without an y hesitation.In her opinion,if she lost her job,she must depend on Rochester to live,thus independence said goodbye to her,she was only a thing of Rochester.Jane was good at self—contro1. She could grasp herself very wel, never losing sense of propriety,in what she did or said. For example, at the party,Jan e kept silent though her heart was very exciting。 From the others point of views, Blan che Ingrain. as a typical representative of the rich class was so be autifu1. She was the ide— al wife of Roc hester. If Roc hester married Ingrain , it was natu— ra1.Because in that society,people‘s sense of love was on the basis of money.In their eyes,money was everything,money was marriage. For the sake of money they could ma rry anyone even though the husban d or th e wife was an idi ot. So the marriage be — tween Rochester and Ingrain was fair an d reasonable. But witII the development of plot, Miss Ingrain was proved to be a loser. Jane defeated her though Jane had no property and beauty.Jane s plainness, poverty, position an d disposition were contrasted to Ingrain obviously. Jane Was 80 calm, kind, intelligent, sympa— thetic and thoughtful,while Ingrain s mind was poor and hypo— critica1. She had no sympathy at al1. She planned to marry Rochester onl y because of Roc hester s property, Ingrain tried her best to fascinate Rochester again and again, unfortunaiely,she failed again and again. Jane Was fully aware of it. She wit— nessed ―their repeated failure‖. @ The party was the climax of the

novel an d the essence of the bok.At the party,Jane s victory was complete. According to her be autiful pe rsonality an d the strength of noble spirit,Jane drove away those aristocrats from competitive stage.High position and great wealth showed by no— ble class was put aside.Jan e got glorious victory. As for the love between Jane an d Roc hester Jan e insisted on her own opinion,keeping independent aJl the time. Why Jane would love Rochester?Because Rochester treated her equaUy,not

considering her as a servant. At the beginl1ing, when JaIle real— ized Rochester s special feeling to her, she always kept her dis— tance. Gradually they fell into deep love. JaIle stm rese nred her di ity. She didn t give up her job, a g0ve丌less wh0 was eco— nomicaUy independent. Later on, when Jane thought Rochester was g0ing to marry Ingram, she decided to leave to find a new job f0r living though she was very IIliserable at that moment. She said nm lv :―I m n0 bird

being with an independent will, which I now exert to leaVe you―. @Jane knew she was the just person whom Rochester loVed, but she also knew if she didn t leave after Rochester and Ingram got married, she couldn t be an independent person at Thornfield . In some degree, in her opinion, she turned to be a poverty of Rochester. Then she would lose her dignity which Was most appreciated by her. If Rochester couldn t treat her equally, she

couldn t stay with him any longer. She retorted excitedly: ―Do you think I can stay to be come nothing to you? Do you think I aiR an automation?——a ma chi ne without feelings? And can bear to have my morsel of bread snatched from my lips, and my drop of living water dashed from my cup? Do you 曲nk. because I‘m poor,obscure, plain an d little, I gin soulless and heartless?You 岫nk wrong!一I have as much soul as you. as full as much heart! And if God had gifted me with some beauty, and much wealth, I should have ma de it as hard for you to lcave me,as it is now for me to leave you. I‘m not talking to you now though the mediuln of customs conventionalities. nor even of mortal flesh:一it is my spirit that addresses your spirit;just as if both had passed through the grave,and we stood at God s feet,equal, 一as we are!硼》These words expressed complete1y Jan e s rebe1. 1ious spirit.She thought she was equal to Rochester.Jane made the strongest voice of revolt as an independent huma n. Jane in— sisted on her o~ntl outlo k on life, defending human dignity, an d protecting her feelings from being violated.Jane would rather aban doned comfortable life at Thomfield than lose independence.

At last,when Jane decided to ma rry Rochester,she refused extravagance.

Luxurious clothes and jewelry were meaningless for

her. She Wash t ―a Jew—usurer, seeking good investment in lan d.‘‘@ What Jane needed was a happy family and a man wh。 gave his confidence an d treated her equally.

The fate often made fun of Jane. On the wedding between Jane and Rochester. Jan e was told that Rochester had married before. Bertha Mason, a mad woman was his wife who had been living at a loom at Th omfield. At the bad news,Jane was very reaso nab le. Th ough every feeling revolted against leaving Rochester, Mr. Roc hester wanted her not to go and live with him,she still made a decision to leave.She knew if she agreed with Rochester, she woul d fell into the category of mistress and lost her respect. The dream of freedom, happiness and the in— dependence which she was looking forward to were fancies. Being a mistress was a tragedy. The strength of reason was power over emotion.Jane left Thornfield resolutely to meet unknown fate in the foture.

T0 get dignity, freedom and independence, Jane had

roamed for two days. She almost starved to death. Luckily, St John helped her.Jane was arranged to be with St John s sisters. Jane won the sisters love because Jane was so firm,kind and in— telligent.But Jane didn t want to depend on her cousins for liv— ing,she accepted the job offered by St John,acting as a teacher in a village schoo1. Jane gained social respect because of her hardworking. Thus, she was self—sufficient and entirely relied

on herself Her independent and rebellious characters were further deepe ned. Jane s spirits of revolt was obviously expressed by her re. fusal 0f St John S ofer of marriage.Jan e never cha nged her will to folow St John.She thought,―If I join St John,I abandon half myself, if I go to India. I go to prema ture death‖, ―if I do made

the sacrifice he urges, I'l throw al on the altar—heart, vitals, the entife victims.‘‘@Jane said to St John, ―I scom your idea 0f

love‖. Jane dared to rebel against St John S ofer because she thought they were equa1.She had the right to rebel against him.

Since St John only loved God,getting ready to devote his everything even life to religion,he WaSh t worth being loved by Jane. In Jane S eyes,St John COuld live as a tol to serve God.Jane s rebe llious wil was to finn, St John S every efort couldn t change her idea.Jan e knew if she agreed with St John ,she was also a to l to se rve him. Influenced by psychic experience, Jane seemed to hear Rochester s supe rnatural cal1. Her spirit felt victorious over her body, so Jane revisited Th ornfield.Surprisingly,Everything at Thomfield cha nged: the hall lied in ruins. Th omfield was destroyed in a big fire. It was Rochester s lunatic wife who set fire to the Hal1. Rochester was the last to leave the burning Hal1. Unfortunately, when Rochester tried to save hi s mad wife, he was injured badly.Now,his wife was dead, he was blind in both eyes an d crippled by losing an a咖. He was n t the rich man as be fore. 丽 莎白的好友夏绿蒂也深知这一点 ,所以在柯林斯 向好友伊丽 莎 白求婚未果转而 向 自己求 婚时欣然应允。

2、伊丽莎 白的爱情婚姻之路

伊丽 莎白与达 西的情感风波很大程度上是 由于主人公对 自我认识 的偏差造成 的 .不公正

的认 识导致 了伊丽莎的偏见 。公正的认识帮 助伊丽莎 自得到 了真正的幸 福。她们 的婚姻 .既是理性 的选 择.又有 深厚的感情基 础 。伊丽 莎自身上体 现着婚姻 的真 正价值和时代追求 。伊丽莎白对达西先后几次求 婚的不同态度 .实际上反 映了女性 对人格 独立和平等权 利 的追求 。伊 丽莎 白聪 明机智 .有胆 识 .有 远见,有很强的自尊心.并善于思考问题。这使她在爱情问题上有 主见 .并因之而获得幸福。面对情感 .她不像妹 妹丽迪雅凭一时 的冲动作决定 .保 持了做人 的尊严 .体 现了思想 和理性的力量;面对现实。她不像夏洛蒂那样完全放弃感情的追求 .伊丽莎 白敢于面对阻挠她 的一切力量 .勇敢地捍卫 了自己高尚纯洁的爱情。尤其值得敬佩的是.她坚持男女双方 的真挚感情 是缔结理想婚姻的基石 .反对 为了财产 、金钱和地位而结婚 。这在当时妇女处 于无权地位 .把婚姻 当作己唯一 出路 的社会是极具进步意义的 。 二、奥斯丁的婚姻理想 1、奥斯丁的婚姻情感经历

在奥斯 丁 42年 的人生 中 .婚 姻生活 却是一 片空 白,她也有过感情历程 。她创作《傲慢与偏见》之蓝本《初 次印象时年仅 21岁,与其偏爱 的主人公伊丽 莎 白同岁。这年 .她与一位爱尔兰青年相爱 .但不久这位青年离开 了英格兰 ,在爱尔兰娶 了位有 钱 的太 太 。1801年 。她 26岁时在 巴斯 与一位标致的青年坠人情 网,情感甚 笃,但此 人却暴病 身亡1802年 27岁的奥斯 丁遇到一位有产 的庄 园继承人 向她 求婚 ,慎重考 虑之后 .她毅然拒 绝了 。1808年 33岁的她几 乎答应嫁给一个 中年牧师但却没有 下文 。这样的情感历程在小说 中也有所体现 。

2、奥斯丁的婚 姻理 想小说 中的伊 丽莎白出身于资 产阶级知识 分子家庭 .富有 个人反抗精 神 。她以她的聪明才智 ,高尚的精神境界处处向瞧不起 她的上流社会挑 战.并且 不断取得胜 利。从伊 丽莎自身上 我们 可以看 到奥斯丁 的影子 .而伊丽 莎自也是 奥斯丁自己最喜爱的人物,她在写给姐姐的信中说:\我承认她是 出现在文学 中的最可爱的人物 .谁要 是不喜欢她 .我可不答应 。\从伊丽莎 白的爱情 和婚 姻上 ,体 现 了奥斯 丁的婚姻观 :\结婚为钱是错误 的,而结 婚得不 到钱 则是愚蠢 的\伊 丽沙 白和达西的婚姻不仅 是一 桩有 爱情 的婚姻 .也是 一桩有金钱 的婚姻。除了高雅 一无所有 的伊丽 莎 白.却嫁 给了最有钱 、最英俊 的男 子。她母亲 以商人 眼光看 待这桩婚姻.满意地说这是一宗不坏的买卖;而对女儿的聪明一直非常赞赏的父亲却未曾料到.他给予她的教育在婚姻市场具极高的交换价值。纵 观《傲慢与偏 见》.可以说 .奥斯丁认为爱情与婚姻水乳交融、不可分割,爱情是婚姻幸福美满最基本 的条件。美貌虽能 给人 以良好的 印象 ,但 唯有具 备独立的个性和良好的品性才能产生恒久 的吸 引力 。由于当时女性特殊的社 会地位 .每当谈 论婚嫁 .金钱 和门第又 脱不 了干系 .对 决定婚姻关系 .乃至人 的一 切关 系的物质原因 .奥斯 丁可谓揭露得深刻 .但这种揭露 ,在这部喜剧性的世态小说 中。不是凶狠的 .不是感伤的 .不是道德 义愤 的。也不是玩世不恭 的.它是嘲讽 的。奥斯 丁的嘲讽渗 透在 全书的字 里行 间。在人物塑造 上起 了关键作用 ,也是叙述中的灵魂。但这种 嘲讽不是文字游戏 .也不在抽象品格上兜 圈子 .而是紧紧围绕对人们的现实关系的揭 露。

Abstract :Body language,like verbal language, is also a part of culture .Different culture shave different body languages except some world known ones. And in intercultural communication, the same body language may mean different things. This paper,on the basis of some examples,emphasizes the significance of body languages in intercultural communication by comparing the body languages in the United States and China, and briefly introducing some body languages often used in foreign countries. The author reaches the conclusion that while learning foreign languages, it is also important as well to know some body languages in foreign countries.

简·奥斯丁在《傲慢与偏见》中, 描写了各种不同的婚姻关系, 用最透辟的眼光向人们表明, 资产阶级婚姻的实质无非是金钱交易、利益的结合。是经济、数字决定人们的生活和命运, 决定者婚姻关系。本文即是在分析资产阶级婚姻观本质的基础上探究简·奥斯丁的理想婚姻观。 二、小说中人物婚姻关系的发展过程

全书的主要情节是围绕在拥有五个千金女儿的班耐特一家人, 虽然他们一家人家境并不是非常富有, 也无任何显赫的社会地位, 但班耐特太太却处心积虑想替五个女儿寻找到和上流社会的贵族联婚的机会。故事主要说的是十八世纪在英国发生的四门婚姻。其中最主要的, 自然是发生在女主角伊丽莎白·班纳特与男主角费茨威廉·达西之间的爱恨情仇。伊丽莎白是个勇于追求爱情、漂亮聪明、坚强可爱的中产阶级女子。故事主要以她对达西先生从一开始的厌恶到尊敬, 再到爱慕为线索, 也穿插了在几个发生在她身边的幸福或不幸的婚姻, 揭示了作者对那个时代女人生活与爱情的理想和期望。故事中女主角伊丽莎白第一眼看到男主角达西就是不顺眼

的, 加上男主角个性的傲慢, 继而对他有了偏见。而男主角达西, 是个不受人欢迎的傲慢男子,也不屑于周遭冷淡的人际关系, 对他来说, 傲慢也许是有理的, 偏见却很无情, 这两者产生的冲击是免不了的。两个人之间也因此而常有针锋相对的言辞, 彼此之间的傲慢和偏见就造成了一开始的不愉快与误解, 但是经过种种事件的澄清, 彼此又渐渐产生一点点的感情。达西代表着“傲慢”, 伊丽莎白代表着“偏见”, 他们一开始都被自己的情绪所牵引。接着一连串对达西不利的流言, 更让伊丽莎白对达西反感。当达西向伊丽莎白求婚而遭到拒绝时, 他说了一句话: “要是我耍一点手段, 把我内心的矛盾掩饰起来, 一味地恭维你, 使你相信我无论在理智方面、思想方面以及其他各方面, 都是对你怀着无条件的纯洁的爱, 那么也许你就不会有这些苛刻的责骂了。可惜无论是什么样的伪装, 我都痛恨。”[1]( P132) 达西沒有为了讨好伊丽莎白, 而改变他的傲慢性情。伊丽莎白也表现了很真实的自己, 彼此都不刻意去营造给人的印象, 表现出了最真实的一面。而开始的时候, 伊丽莎白一直活在自己的偏见之下, 而忽略思考事实的真相, 经过达西的解释和自己的判断, 才最终找到幸福的归宿。在《傲慢与偏见》中, 奥斯丁还写了伊丽莎白的几个姐妹和女友的婚事, 这些都是陪衬, 用来与女主人公理想的婚姻相对照。如夏绿蒂和柯林斯尽管婚后过着舒适的物质生活, 但他们之间没有爱情, 这种婚姻实际上是掩盖在华丽外衣下的社会悲剧。

三、资产阶级婚姻关系的实质

《傲慢与偏见》是这样开始的“凡是有财产的单身汉, 必定需要娶位太太, 这已经成了一条举世公认的真理。这样的单身汉, 每逢新搬到一个地方, 四邻八舍虽然完全不了解他的心情如何, 见解如何, 可是,既然这样一条真理已在人们心目中根深蒂固, 因此人们总是把他看作自己某一个女儿理所应得的一笔财产。”[1]( P1) 这里所说的婚姻, 显然不涉及感情, 纯粹是个经济问题、生存问题。对于那些待嫁的女孩子, 彬格莱只是个抽象所在, 她们远远看见他“身穿蓝上衣, 骑着一匹黑马”就够了, 关键是有“财产”。[2]( P16) 简·奥斯丁所描写的婚姻, 不是作为爱情结果的婚姻, 而是作为经济需要的婚姻。因此, 我们可以说, 与作者声称的相反, 所谓“有财产的单身汉, 必定需要娶位太太”根本不是“举世公认的真理”, 而是班纳特太太的一厢情愿。我们可以说,在《傲慢与偏见》中, 真正的“举世公认的真理”, 不是“有财产的单身汉需要娶位太太”, 而是“没有财产的妇女需要嫁有财产的丈夫! ”从《傲慢与偏见》的整个描写来看, 作者不是探索妇女问题, 而是资本主义社会, 既占有欲泛滥成灾的社会条件下的婚姻关系, 推而广之, 也是考察经济关系在婚姻、在人们生活中的决定作用。[3]( P25) 在《傲慢与偏见》中, 看到的围绕婚姻关系的描写, 浮在最表面的是会客、喝茶、跳舞、聊天儿等一个谈笑风生的社交世界。可是, 另一方面, 这里又是一个由经济基础决定一切的生存竞争的世界。我们看到, 充斥全书的是数字, 数字, 数字。当然, 除了具体的金钱数字, 还有由经济地位决定的社会地位。是经济、数字决定人们的生活与命运, 决定着婚姻关系。由此可见, 资产阶级婚姻的实质无非是金交易、利益的结合。

四、简·奥斯丁理想的婚姻观

简·奥斯丁在这部小说中通过班纳特五个女儿对待终身大事的不同处理, 表现出乡镇中产阶级家庭出身的少女对婚姻爱情问题的不同态度, 从而反映了作者本人的婚姻观: 为了财产、金钱和

地位而结婚是错误的; 而结婚不考虑上述因素也是愚蠢的。因此, 她既反对为金钱而结婚, 也反对把婚姻当儿戏。她强调理想婚姻的重要性, 并把男女双方感情作为缔结理想婚姻的基石。中的女主人公伊丽莎白出身于小地主家庭, 为富豪子弟达西所热爱。达西不顾门第和财富的差距, 向她求婚, 却遭到拒绝。伊丽莎白对他的误会和偏见是一个原因, 但主要的是她讨厌他的傲慢。因为达西的这种傲慢实际上是地位差异的反映,只要存在这种傲慢, 他与伊丽莎白之间就不可能有共同的思想感情,也不可能有理想的婚姻。以后伊丽莎白亲眼观察了达西的为人处世和一系列所作所为, 特别是看到他改变了过去那种骄傲自负的神态, 消除了对他的误会和偏见, 从而他缔结了美满姻缘。伊丽莎白对达西先后几次求婚的不同态度, 实际上反映了女性对人格独立和平等权利的追求。这是伊丽莎白这一人物形象的进步意义。从小说看, 伊丽莎白聪敏机智, 有胆识, 有远见, 有很强的自尊心, 并善于思考问题。就当时一个待字闺中的小姐来讲, 这是难能可贵的。正是由于这种品质, 才使她在爱情问题上有独立的主见, 并导致她与达西组成美满的庭。 五、小说的现实意义

《傲慢与偏见》傲慢与偏见虽是一出闪烁着斗智意味的爱情轻喜剧, 但实际却告诉我们一个真理, 那就是牢固的爱情是婚姻的奠基石。为了财产、金钱和地位而结婚是错误的; 而结婚不考虑上述因素也是愚蠢的。简·奥斯丁通过小说告诉人们必须行动和自省才有希望, 人的尊严绝不是与生俱来的, 而是从行动和自省中获得, 透过理性的行动,把人类的王国建立得具有一个心灵价值的模式, 以与物质世俗有别。 六、小结

总之, 简·奥斯丁对婚姻关系、乃至人的一切关系的物质原因可谓揭露得深刻, 但这种揭露, 在这部喜剧性的世态小说中, 不是凶狠的,不是伤感的, 不是道德义愤的, 也不是玩世不恭的, 而是嘲讽的 参考文献
