汉语四字排比结构的英译处理

四字结构几乎可见于古今各种文体之中，或独自成句，或并列排比，或前呼后应。结构匀称对仗，读起来音韵和美，表达言简意赅，将汉语文字的音与形的特点巧妙揉和在一起，极富美感。而汉语四字排比结构就更是词义丰富，文才华丽，语气连贯，具有极强的修辞效果。

尽管如此，汉语四字排比结构的字面意义并非历历具足，往往是虚实相生，重在气势和意境；而英语却是一种非常理性的语言，最重清楚明白，最忌逻辑混乱与文字堆砌，所以在翻译的过程中，汉语工整对仗、抑扬顿挫的排比结构在英语中却多半变得长短不一、参差不齐，这是不可避免的。因为我们不可能强求与原文保持形式上的一致，这样一来反而会导致译文表达松散堆砌，这是不符合英语表达习惯的。因此，汉语的四字排比结构在翻译成英语时，可根据其语义成分和逻辑成分，转化成英语中相应的结构。

下面就逻辑关系分别说明其英译处理的方法：

1．并列关系的四字排比结构的英译处理

并列关系的四字排比结构通常转化为英语中的下列结构：

a. 形容词 + 名词

1） 按照合理布局、优化结构、突出重点的要求，加强宣传文化事业的基本建设。

Capital construction of publicity and cultural undertakings will be strengthened according to the principle of a rational distribution, an optimized structure and a priority order.

2） 大峡谷的谷地山峦交错、峡谷相连、江水汹涌。

The valley of the Grand Bend is full of multi-peaked mountains, joined canyons and turbulent waters.

b. 名词或形容词 + in + 名词

1） 由于这台仪器性能稳定、操作可靠、维修方便，因此受到用户的好评。

The instrument has been welcomed by the users because of its stability in service, reliability in operation and simplicity in

maintenance.

2） 这些女式衬衣系采用上等纯丝制成，价格公道，工艺精湛，设计独特。

These blouses are made of pure silk of best quality，moderate in price, excellent in craftsmanship and unique in designs.

c. 介词短语

1） 澜沧江河床低深，水流湍急，两岸高陡，令人望而生畏。

The Lancang River is very much awe-inspiring with deep riverbeds, rushing currents and steep banks.

d. 名词性短语

1） 大力培养爱岗尽责、方便群众、优质服务的敬业精神。

We should vigorously foster the fine spirit, including dedication to work, and offering convenience and fine services to the masses.

e. 动词短语

1） 我们必须解放思想、实事求是、扎实工作、开拓进取。

We should emancipate our minds, seek truth from facts and work hard creatively.

2. 含主从关系的四字排比结构的英译处理

汉语中有些四字排比结构可能是围绕着一个中心进行描述的，在英译时可以将其中的主从部分转化成伴随结构或状语结构。

1) 作为世界第一大洲，亚洲幅员辽阔，人口众多，资源丰富，有着巨大的发展潜力。

Asia, as the largest continent in the world, is a vast land with a huge population, abundant natural resources and enormous potential for development.

2) 这里气候温和，四季分明，雨量充沛，日照充足，适合多种农作物生长栽培。

It enjoys a temperate climate with well-marked seasons and has plenty of rainfall and sunshine, favorable for growing crops.

3) 江岸上彩楼林立，彩灯高悬，旌旗飘摇，呈现出一派喜气洋洋的节日场面。

High-rise buildings ornamented with colored lanterns and bright banners stand out along the river.

(注解：建议把bright banners 改为fluttering banner; 把stand out 改为line up; 在along the riverside, 后面加上presenting/displaying a scene of rejoice.

4） TY型游梁式抽油烟机结构简单，安全可靠，制造简易，维修方便，广泛应用于世界石油生产。

Type TY beam pumping unit is simple in structure, dependable in operation, easy in manufacture and convenient in maintenance. Thus, it finds its wide application in petroleum production all over the world.

5） 本厂能生产大衣、西装、时装、衬衣、毛衣等不同类型服装的上千个花色品种纽扣，产品规格齐全、品种繁多、造型新颖。

The factory can produce various new types of buttons in thousands of different designs for coats, suits, fashions, shirts and sweaters.

另外，有些四字排比结构实际上是个浓缩的句子，在翻译时，可以以其中的主体部分为主语展开，将其从属部分转化为句子的各个部分，如下例：

6）大批仁人志士，满腔悲愤，万种辛酸，想有所为而不能为，真是英雄无用武之地。

So many men and women with sublime ideals, worried and frustrated, wish to do something (about it), only to find that, able as they were, they had no chance to carry out their ideals. (注解：建议把worried 改为indignant)

3．含因果关系的四字排比结构的英译处理

汉语中的四字排比结构有些含有隐性的因果关系，在翻译的时候通常是将

表示原因部分放在前面，中间用“导致”或“形成”等类似的动词连接。

1） 江中多滩,易阻行舟,然而急湍澎湃,惊涛轰鸣,气势磅礴。

There are many hidden shoals in the river, presenting a challenge to navigators. And the surges of the swift currents and roars of the terrifying waves achieve great momentum.

2) 这里山花古松遮掩着悬崖峭壁，鸟语花香，生意盎然，一派秀丽景色。

Wild flowers and old pines on the precipice, with birds singing among them,

form a beautiful scene full of life and vitality.

4.四字排比结构的化简

由于汉语四字排比结构与英语表达习惯之间的差异，从英语的角度来讲，汉语四字排比结构中必然有一些不符合英语表达习惯的成分，比如同义重复的四字结构，在汉语中有着加强语气的作用，如果照搬到英语中就显得罗嗦多余。

汉语四字排比结构的化简，首先要确定那些属于汉语中范畴词，是否属于同义重复，然后去掉汉语中有而英语中可以不要的部分。

1） 建立办事高效、运转协调、行为规范的行政管理体系。

We should set up a highly efficient, well-coordinated and standardized administrative system.

(原文中的“办事”、“运转”和“行为”属于汉语中范畴词，在英语中被省略了。)

2） 本店货色齐全，花色多样，任凭挑选。

We have a good assortment of goods to choose from.

3） 这支歌唱遍了神州大地，唱满了50年悠悠岁月，余音袅袅，一曲难忘。 This song has been sung all over China for 50 years, and the melody still lingers in the air.

以上几个方面只是汉语四字排比结构在英译处理过程中的常见方法，并不能以一变应万变，更多的时候要求我们具体情况具体分析。总的一点是首先抓住原句的意思的实质，选择对应的英语句式，通顺地表达原文意思，不能原封不

动地照搬死译。
