Is the Lei Feng Spirit out of Date?

March 5 is a significant day of “learn form Lei Feng day”, which is in honor of Chinese solider Lei Feng for his good morals. At this day various voluntary activities held to learn the Lei Feng spirit. Some people proposed that holding these activities are just a kind of formalism because nowadays people become more concerned with materialistic gains, such as fame, money and authority, instead of spiritual gains. I strongly diaapprove this idea. Lei Feng spirit, as one of our traditional spirits, has its meaning to exist. It’s never out of date.

Perhaps it would be useful here to figure out what is the Lei Feng spirit that the problems begains. Lei Feng is know by people for devoting himself for our nation. He was a soldier with little wages, but he saved most his money to give the people who were disabled, or homeless. Having a king heart to love and care about others, he was always praised. Many of us surly heared a lot of stories about him that he helped old lady cross the street and he was enthusiastically helping the servant to clean the ground on the train without any mony. He woked so warmhearted just for one aim that to make his effort to help others. Also he was famous for his thirfty and hardworking. These all are still advocated by now. Althought Lei Feng was died, his noble deeds were summered up for Lei Feng spirit. And this spirit now become invaluable treasure for Chinese people. The society consistantly changs, but the Lei Feng spirit is always needed. We

need help more or less from our friends, colleagues even stranges. In return, we should give help for them by Lei Feng spirit.

Lei Feng spirit is still seeked by most of us in today’s society. Donating money for poor people, looking after eldly people and voluntering to save victims in the earthquake, actually there are still existing many common people like Lei Feng. They bring warm to the people who was in trouble and let them keep away from the difficulties. This year, an old grandpa about 80 years was fainted suddenly in the cold day when he sold sweet potatos in the street. No one was willing to help him, they were feared that they would be framed up if they do. Accidently, the two college girls passed by there, they helped the old grangpa without any hesitation. Seeing this , many people also actively gave a helping hand. They took the heat water and cotton-padded jacket to the old grandpa. Under the two girls help, the grandpa’s sweet potatos were sold out and he was sent home finally. The two girls deeds proved that lei feng spirit is alive.

Though there are some negective news about Lei Feng spirit, we have to admit that the positive inflence of Lei Feng is more than negective by large. I belive the society needs this kind of positive energy at any times, so it is never out of style.
