第一课时: New words and phrases

Learning Goals

1. 能争取使用下列词汇(Curriculum words)

名词(n.): news, discussion, joke, action, cartoon, culture, reason, film, movie, army

动词(v.): plan, hope, stand, happen, expect, appear, become, became, lose, lost, may, might,

形容词(adj.):educational, meaningless, famous, rich, successful, main, common, unlucky, ready, simple,

2. 能争取使用下列常用短语(Useful expressions)

3. 能认读下列词汇(non-curriculum words)

Teaching and learning steps

Step1 Learn to read the words on Page125-

1.Ask the students to read the words by themselves using the phonetics, underline the difficult words.

2.Encourage the students to read the difficult words with their partners.

3.Get two or three middle-level students to read all the words, the others listen and correct their mistakes in pronunciation. If necessary, the teacher helps them.

4. Read after the tape, imitate the pronunciation.

5.The students read aloud to memorize the words. (The teacher walks around to see whether students have any questions.)

(设计意图:该步骤能有效培养学生个人识读单词的学习习惯,这是学习单词的重要一步;能培养学生自主、探究和合作学习的能力。首先学生自己根据音标识读单词,并标出识读时有困难的单词。接着两人一组或以小组为单位解决遇到的困难。然后找一两个同学读单词,请好学生先纠正,还有问题,教师再更正。最后让学生跟录音读,该环节只会读即可。降低识读难度,提高全体学生积极性。鼓励没过关的学生课前课后努力赶上。)

Step2 Learn the new words

一、Remember the words by looking at the pictures.

news famous

We should watch CCTV news every night if we hope to find out what’s going on around the world. And Miss Li and Mr. Wang are very famous news reporter.

sitcom (= situation comedy)

I plan to watch sitcoms online, the main reason is that I can learn some great jokes from them .

soap opera

I love soap operas. I like to follow the story and see what happens next. But my sister can’t stand them. She thinks they’re meaningless.

cartoon

Almost all the children love to watch cartoons, because they are the funniest of all the TV shows.

action movie

I expect to learn some actions from action movies.

army When I grow up, I may join the army.

a common man

He is a common man. He lost his two legs two years ago. He is unlucky.

become rich

Li Jiacheng is a successful man. When he became rich, he was always ready to help others.

simple These are simple questions.

comedy Zhou Xingchi is a comedy actor.

film (=movie) dress up

Mulan is an action film (=movie). She dresses up like a boy and takes her father’s place to fight in the army.

(设计意图:运用实物、图画创设语境,让学生直观地理解单词的意思,通过建立语境和语义之间的关系,促进理解、加深记忆,培养学生用英语思维的习惯。减少了学生对汉语的依赖,避免孤立地理解和记忆单词。)

二、Remember the words by complex words (合成)、 derivative(派生)and comparison (对比)

1.合成 girl(女孩) +friend(朋友) --- girlfriend(女朋友)

Minnie is Mickey Mouse’s girlfriend.

2.派生 education (教育) + al – educational (教育的;有教育意义的)

Parents hope their children can get a good education. The movie is very educational.

discuss (讨论)+ tion – discussion (讨论;商量)

The boys are discussing the soccer game. They often have a discussion about it.

act (扮演)+ ion – action (行动)

Jackie Chan acted as a hero in an action movie.

meaning (意义;意思)+less – meaningless (毫无意义的;意思不明确的) He thinks soap operas are too meaningless.

success(成功)+ ful – successful (获得成功的;有成就的)Jackie Chan is a successful actor. He made a great success.

lucky(幸运的)+un – unlucky (不幸的;不吉利的)

The man who has many good friends is lucky. The man who has few friends is unlucky.

3.对比 succeed (动词,成功)--success(名词,成功)-- successful(形容词,成

功的)-- successfully(副词,成功得)

He acted the man successfully in the action movie, so he succeeded. He is a successful

actor. However Zhao Wei is a successful actress.

luck(名词,幸运)--lucky(形容词,幸运的)--luckily(副词,幸运得)-- unlucky (形容词,不幸的;不吉利的)

act(动词,扮演;名词,表演者)--action(名词,行动)-- actor(名词,男演员)-- actress(名词,女演员)

(设计意图:英语的词汇无限,英语的词根有限,很多词都是通过附加词缀变化而来,因此根据构词法记忆词汇非常有效。)

三、Remember the phase by matching itself with its meaning.

1.find out 愿意迅速做某事

2.dress up 查明;弄清楚

3.be ready to 干得好

4.take sb.’s place 装扮;乔装打扮

5.do a good job 代替;替换

(设计意图:让学生连线搭配进行语块记忆是一种有效的记忆短语的方式。)

四、Remember the words by looking at semantic map.

Step 3 Consolidate the words and phrases

Give the students a few minutes to try to memorize the words first . Then get them to work in pairs to spell the words or write down the words with the Chinese. Underline the words they haven’t grasped.

The teacher can also give some important words and get the students to try to have a short dictation.

Step 4 Read the story and translate the story

1. Ask the students to read the story, and underline the new words.

2. Translate the story into Chinese in groups of two.

3. Read the story fluently by themselves.

(设计意图:此环节为巩固单词。这一环节有少部分的学生往往不达标,需要利用自习课或课余的时间让小组长跟踪检查,尽量能让全部学生顺利过关。)

Lucy and Lily are twin sisters. They both like watching news. One of the main reason s is that they hope to find out what’s going on around the world. They think it’s educational. But they have some different opinions. They often have a discussion about TV shows. Lucy likes to watch talk show s and sitcom s. She expect s to learn some great joke s from them, and she plan s to be a famous actress. But Lily thinks they’re boring and meaningless. Lily likes to watch soap opera s and action movie s. She likes to follow the story and see what happen s next. But Lucy can’t stand them. Their favorite cartoon character is Mickey Mouse. He first appear ed in the cartoon Steamboat Willie. He did a simple job. He was like a common man, but he’s unlucky. He lost his girlfriend, however he was always ready to try his best. He became the first cartoon character to have a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame. He is successful. The man behind Mickey was Walt Disney. He was very rich and successful.

本单元的单词课堂设计基本涵盖了本单元的单词和词组,涉及到了学习英语方法这一语言运用能力,尤其是短文编写让学生在短文中对单词有了更深的理解和运用。单词的拼读注重了学生自学能力和小组合作能力的培养,同时通过各种形式的单词记忆既加深了单词的识记,又学会了部分单词的用法,渗透了本单元的重点话题,达到了预习的目的。当堂检测的设计更是有效地补充与巩固了词汇的用法。

不足之处:

一节课的时间毕竟有限,不能面面俱到,还需在以后的复习中查缺补漏和加大检查的广度。
