The water cycle is the way the Earth uses and recycles water. It's controlled by the Sun, which produces energy in the form of heat. This heat energy causes the water in the world's oceans and lakes to warm and evaporate (蒸发).

When water is heated, it changes from a liquid to a gas. This gas is called water vapor, process is called evaporation. When plants give off water vapor, it's called transpiration (蒸腾作用). When water evaporates, it rises cooler air, collects and forms clouds. There, the water vapor molecules (分子) cool down and change back into liquid water. This is called condensation (凝结).

As more and more water vapor cools into the clouds, the water drops that form the clouds become larger and larger. These drops get so big that the winds in the air can no longer hold them up. The drops fall from the sky.

The water that's fallen to the Earth runs off into lakes, rivers, streams, and any other body of water. The Sun heats the water and the water evaporates, and the whole cycle begins again.
