“British history has been a history of invasions”what’s your idea about it? British history has been a history of invasions.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern ireland. Northwestern Europe Island, land on the island of Great Britain from England, Scotland, Welsh and the island of Ireland Northern Ireland 4 sections and numerous small islands.

British used to be invaded by the Roman Empire. Germanic people, the Vikings and Normans. Before the first century AD Britain was made up of many tribal kingdoms of Celtic people: a powerful culture originating in central Europe. Then in 43AD Britain was invaded by the Roman empire, and England and Wales (though not Scotland or Ireland) became a part of the Roman empire for nearly 400 years. Two more groups of invaders were to come after the English: from the late 8th century on, raiders from Scandinavia, the ferocious Vikings, threatened Britain's shores… But I think British history is mostly about invasion and conquering to other countries. As I know, British used to invade 2/3 of the world and successfully controlled them for a period of time. I guess this is why British history has been a history of invasion

Britain and the Second World War the end of nineteen twenties to early 30's, the outbreak of the global economic crisis between the imperialist countries, aggravate of contradiction. The influence of foreign invasion on early British culture

The essay focuses on the influence of foreign invasion on early British culture. Of course, the culture contains many aspects. Such as race, political system, education, art and so on .As we all know, the history of early British is a process of being invaded. So, the influence of culture intersperses the foreign invasion. I put them together to talk.

The Britain in the ancient times was invaded or occupied by many race or armies. The first known settlers were the Iberians in the Neolithic Age. The Celts came to Britain about 700BC. A branch of them was called Briton who gave the names Britain and the British to the island and its inhabitants. The settlers in the south had their market with quite cozy city life. Coin species appeared in their trade. Moreover, the Celts love beauty and romantic fantasy. Unrestrained inspiration always flashed their brain. The wrought bronze was the very evidence of their talent. Of course, we can see the Celts brought great changes to the island. The British in the future carry on the spirit of continuous curiosity and creativity. The Celts really pulled ahead in European medieval times. Maybe, now we can understand why the British are skilled in the poetry. Romance comes from here. William Shakespeare and Shelley are the typical represents.

The Romans invaded the island after the Celts. British recorded history begins with the Roman invasion .In 55 BC and 54 BC, Julius Caesar, a Roman general, invaded twice. But he failed. In 43 AD, the Emperor Claudius invaded Britain successfully. Britain was under the occupation for nearly 400 years, thought it was never a total occupation. Roman occupation nearly had no influence on the race of Britain. The aim of invasion was to control it. Then, let us get something about the language. As known to all, the Roman speaks Latin. The island mainly spread Celtic. Latin is superior to Celtic so the languages can not intergrade. Roman culture came to Britain with the army. The residents slowly changed. The Roman built many towns, roads, bathes, temples, and buildings. They made good use of Britain’s natural resources. The Romans were originally attracted to the natural hot springs near what is now the city of Bath in the England. The founded the city and excavated the baths to exploit the medicinal value .The baths are now famous landmarks. The also brought the new religion, Christianity, to Britain. The famous religion had profound effect on the island. All the influences were limited. First, the Romans always treated the Britons as a subject people of salve class. Second, never did the Romans and Britons intermarry during the 4 centuries.

Let us come to the Anglo-Saxons. The Anglo-Saxons laid the basis of modern England race. In my view, the influence of this invasion focuses on the language, English. The Romans army retreated in the 5th century. The Anglo-Saxons came here. They spoke Anglo-Saxon. This is the origin of modern English. That is to say English appeared in the 6th century. Then, English at that time was called pre-English. It was very casual. The language can not be used to indite literary work. But English history occurred in a major event. Glenn Pope, Korea I, sent missionaries to Britain in aim to establishing churches in 579. The measure was very important.

The Viking and Danish invaded here when the Anglo-Saxons lived in comfort. We have to refer to King Alfred and his contributions. He was a king of Wessex. He defeated the Danes and reached a friendly agreement with them in 879. He also converted some leading Danes into Christians. He translated a Latin book into English. He also established schools and formulated a legal system. All this earns him the title “Alfred the Great”.

Next, it was the famous Norman Conquest. William the Conqueror confiscated almost all the land and gave it to his Norman followers. He replaced the weak Saxon rule with a strong Norman government. So the feudal system was completely established in England. Relations with the Continent were opened and the civilization and commerce were extended .Norman-French culture, language, manners and architecture were introduced. The Church was brought into closer connection with Roma, and the church courts were separated from the civil courts.

Concluding remarks

As is known to us all, the Britain once had a fame of the Empire on which the sun never set, which clearly shows how strong and prosperous the Britain was in the 17th century. In fact, all the British people are very proud of its glorious history, just like us Chinese.

In the invasion of Britain, whether domestic or to the world for all more or less bring about disaster, but it is not only accelerating the development of the country, and to promote the advance of human civilization. More positive significance.
