Book 4

Unit1 Women of achievement

Ⅰ.阅读理解

College experiences teach you a lot about life.As a college student, living frugally is a matter of necessity. If you look back on your college years, there are many lessons you can learn to live frugally once more.

It is easy to overspend when you can just whip out the credit card to pay for wants and needs.During your college days, you may not have even worked or had a small paycheck. It was important to budget those paychecks so you knew all your monthly bills were paid for.Follow your spending habits to know where the money goes. Then create a monthly budget that you can stick to and even put a little savings aside.

If you lived in the dorms at college, you should know the room was not very large.Living off campus probably meant you had at least one roommate as well.Since college, your living space has expanded while you probably have less people paying expenses.Consider renting out extra space in your home if you can.Another option would be to consider downsizing.A smaller living area may reduce the utility costs as well.

You don’t need to limit yourself to ramen noodles for every meal. That is a popular option for college students, but there are other tricks to reducing the cost of food expenses.Reducing grocery expenses may be as simple as having a few meatless meals a week.Shop the sales, use coupons where appropriate, and consider store brand options to further reduce costs.Buying fruits and vegetables at the local farmer’s market may give you cost savings as well.Another option would be to have potluck dinners with friends and family. If each person brings one dish, you can have a great meal and probably leftovers with very little expense.

College students experience many learning opportunities. They are just starting out on their own and bound to make some mistakes. However, when it comes to simple, frugal learning, college students are great teachers.
