ANSI/CAN/UL-1973:2018, Batteries for Use in Stationary, Vehicle Auxiliary Power and Light Electric Rail (LER) Applications This standard covers battery system for used as energy storage:

-For stationary applications,such as for PV, wind tube storage,or UPS. -For light electric rail (LER) applications and stationary rail applications such as rail substations

-Unique technologies such as flow batteries

and sodium beta (i.e., sodium sulfur and sodium nickel chloride)

ANSI/CAN/UL 1974, Evaluation for Repurposing Batteries This standard covers the sorting and grading process of battery packs, modules and cells and electrochemical capacitors that were originally configured and used for other purposes, such as electric

vehicle propulsion, and that are intended for a repurposed use application, such as for use in energy storage systems and other applications for battery packs, modules, cells and electrochemical capacitors.

This standard also covers application specific requirements for repurposed battery packs/systems and battery packs/systems utilizing repurposed modules, cells and other components

UL 810A Electrochemical Capacitors 1.1 These requirements cover electrochemical capacitors for use in equipment such as electronic products, uninterruptible power supplies, emergency lighting, engine starting, and power equipment. These energy storage capacitors, also known as electric double-layer capacitors, ultracapacitors, double-layer capacitors or supercapacitors, consist of either individual capacitors or multiple series and/or parallel connected capacitors with or without associated circuitry.

1.2 These requirements do not cover electrochemical capacitors for use in hazardous (Classified) locations.

UL 1642 Lithium Batteries These requirements cover primary(non-rechargeable)and secondary (rechargeable) lithium batteries for use as power sources in products. These batteries contain metallic lithium, lithium alloy or lithium-ion and may consist of a

single electrochemical cell or two or more cells connected in series, parallel, or both that convert chemical energy into electrical nergy by an irreversible or reversible chemical

reaction.

Standards for Inverters, Converters, Controllers and Interconnection System

Equipment for Use with DER 1.1 These requirements cover inverters, converters, charge controllers, and interconnection system equipment (ISE) intended for use in stand-alone (not grid-connected) or utility-interactive (grid-connected)

power systems. Utility-interactive inverters, converters, and ISE are intended to be operated in parallel with an electric power system (EPS) to supply power to common loads.
