Writing 1: Buy franchising company or individual business?

The article states that there are three advantages on running a franchising company, including reliable suppliers, less advertising cost and more security. However, the professor in the lecture contradicts the argument from three aspects.

First, the reading claims that it is easier to find reliable suppliers of the goods and services for the franchising company. Conversely, the professor refutes that all the goods and services supplied by the major company are overpriced. Otherwise, the equivalents are cheaper in the market.

Second, the article says that a franchise can save a new business a lot of money on advertising. On the contrary, the professor disagrees with the opinion. She claims that the franchise must pay 6% of sales to the major company. It does advertisement, but not advertises the franchise’s business. Thus, the franchise gets little benefit.

Last but not least, the reading states that a franchise offers more security and reduces the failure rate. Inversely, the professor denies the idea. She says that all the franchises must buy it from the previous owners. It is obvious that the previous owners fail in the region so that the future failure would be twice.

Writing 2: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

People learn things better from those at their own level - such as fellow students or co-workers – than from those at a higher level, such as teachers or supervisors. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Nowadays, the society is open and there are a lot of study environments and ways in world. Some people think that they learn things better from those at their own level, such as fellow students or co-workers, because they can perceive the height of knowledge. In my view of point, I am afraid that I disagree with the statement for the following reasons.

At first, when we learn things from those at a higher level, such as teachers or supervisors, it is easy for us to improve our levels because there is always a higher level in front of us. There is a famous story tells of a young man who wanted to reach the highest peak of the mountains. One day, he got at the bottom of a hill and thought that it was the highest. He began to climb. When he arrived at the peak, he found there was another higher one. Thus, he set out for that higher one. Over and over again. There seemed another higher peak before him. He continued to climb. That is to say, if there is a higher aim before us, we will continuously strive and get a higher level. Teachers or supervisors definitely own higher level of knowledge or skills. It is better for us to learn from them and easier to improve our level. If you want to see further, you should stand on the shoulders of giants.

However, it is hard to enhance our level if we learn from those at our own level because we can not have higher goals. Let take me as an example. When I was a student in a high school, I like to study in a group together with my classmates. One day, I met with a problem on the math equation. I asked my partner and got the answer. During he shown the calculation process, I knew that I was able to accomplish it like him. Two days later, our teacher presented the same question in our class and gave us another method to resolve the problem. The method was much easier and clearer than

that my classmate gave me. In a word, learning from those at the same level would cause you to stay the same point.

In conclusion, knowledge is infinite. In order to improve ourselves as soon as possible, it is better to learn from those at a higher level. Never to reject to learn from teachers or supervisors.
