阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C 和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答 题卡上将该项涂黑。

A

Do you forget to turn off the lights and heaters when you go out of a room? In 2040 it will not matter. They will turn themselves off, and on again when you return. You will choose the temperature for each room, the lighting and the humidity(湿度). A sensor (传感器) will detect the presence of a human (and, with luck, ignore the dog!) and turn the systems on, and when the humans leave it will turn them off again.

The sensors will work through the central home computer, and they will do much more than just turn the fires and lights on and off for you. They will detect faulty electrical appliances, plugs or switches, isolate (隔 断) them so that they cannot harm anyone, and then warn you that they need repair. They will detect fire and if you are out of the house, the computer will call the fire brigade. It will also call the police if the sensors detect an intruder(不速之客). This will not be too difficult because the locks on the outside doors will be electronic. You will open them using your personal card — the one you use for shopping — maybe using a number

known only to you.

It will be impossible to lose the key, and a housebreaker will have to tamper(瞎摆弄)with the lock or with a window. It is not very difficult to make such tampering send a signal to the computer.

The computer will be more than a fireman, policeman, and servant. It will be an entertainer, and most of your entertainment will come right into your home. It does now, of course, but by 2040 \will mean much more. For one thing, you will be able to take part actively, rather than just watching.

( ) 56. It can be inferred from the text that _____.

A. you can be taken for an intruder if you tamper with the lock or with a window

B. the sensor will detect fire but not make any emergency call C. the new sensors will take the place of the computers D. without a computer, the sensor cannot do much

( ) 57. According to the author, in 2040, new technology will ______. A. turn everything into sensors

B. free us from the keys we use today

C. make the traditional locks out of date D. get rid of all crimes

( ) 58. Thanks to computers, in 2040, people will ______. A. have no entertainment outside B. replace TV with computers C. be controlled by computers D. have more fun at home

( ) 59. What would be the best title for the text? A. The Development of Science and Technology B. Sensors and Computers

C. Life at Home in the Year 2040

D. Lights and Heaters in the Year 2040

American Thomas Schelling and Israeli-American Robert Aumann will

share the 2005 Nobel Prize in economics. Both men have greatly influenced the way conflict and business negotiations are carried out.

The two men are being honored for their work in developing an economic idea. It is called game theory.

Game theory began as the study of decision-making in competitive

situations, like games. John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstem linked the theory of games with economic activities more than sixty years ago. In the nineteen fifties, John Nash developed an idea known as the Nash equilibrium (平衡). The Nash equilibrium is the point where all sides in a competitive situation believe they have been given the best offer they will ever get. He proved this with mathematical methods. Mr. Nash won the Nobel Prize in economics with two other men in nineteen ninety-four. Mr. Schelling used the ideas of game theory to study real-life problems, such as the arms competition between the United States and the Soviet Union forty years ago. He was interested in what influenced negotiating groups. He showed how one side might decide to harm its interests for a short period of time to make gains over a longer period. Mr. Schelling also used game theory to show how people become divided by race. He found that divided societies can result even among persons mostly willing to live
