Castel dell’Ovo Tours
Castel dell’Ovo is one of Naples most famous monuments. It offers sweeping views over the city and Mount Vesuvius in the distance.
The Basics
The site on which Castel dell’Ovo now stands has a long history, beginning as a settlement for Greek colonists(殖民地定居者). The current castle was built in the 15th century, and today, the 19th-century fishing village of Borgo Marinari, known for its excellent seafood restaurants and marina(游艇停靠区), sits at the base of the castle.
The Egg Castle
The origin of the castle’s name comes from a story about the Roman poet Virgil, who is said to have placed a magical egg in the foundations beneath where the castle now stands. As long as the egg stays well, Castel dell’Ovo will remain standing.
Things to Know Before You Go
·Castel dell’Ovo is a must-see for history and architecture enthusiasts.
·Admission to the castle and the museum is free.
·The inner halls of the castle are open to the public only during special events and exhibitions, the ramparts(城墙) and towers are always open.
·There is a lift from the ground floor to the ramparts, making the castle accessible to wheelchairs.
How to Get There
Castel dell’Ovo is located in the Bay of Naples just off the coastal road. Bus 151 from the train station and 140 from the port stop at Castel dell’ Ovo.
When to Get There
The castle is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 am to 7 pm, and Sundays and holidays from 8: 30 am to 1: 30 pm. The Prehistoric Museum is open only on weekends from 10 am to 1 pm. As Naples is one of Italy’s most visited cities, its sights can be very crowded in the high-season summer months. Author Avi, winner of a Newbery Award, a Scott O’Dell Historical Fiction Award, and several Boston Globe-horn Book Awards, may have seen his first children’s book published in 1970, but that doesn’t mean he’s lost his talent for connecting with young fans.
The American writer, born in 1937,agrees that getting involved with his readers is one of the key reasons he keeps writing, and that he’s been fortunate enough to hear directly from readers about the impact(影响) his books have had.“ I have been touched many times by readers who find some special connection between their lives and something I have written: the Danish girl who
read something of mine in Danish, and struggled to communicate that in her poor English; the autistic(自闭症的) boy who somehow found something meaningful about my books that reached his own inner life; the women who have told me how important The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle was to them.”
Beyond his fans questions about the characters he’s created, the writer’s most commonly heard question may be about his own use of the single name “Avi.” “ As a young adult, I was a reader of French literature, which has that one name tradition: Moliere, Racine, Anouilh, Gide, and so on,” he explains. “Avi was given to me by my twin sister when we were very young children, and it stuck. Then my family discouraged me from taking up writing as a career because they considered my writing poor. By using Avi, I was showing my determination to them.”
Although he believes--- and has the awards to show---that his writing skills have improved, writing still doesn’t come easily to him, despite having over sixty books to his credit.“I never studied writing in any formal sense. I taught myself to write by reading, and by imitating what I was reading, ”he says.
The writing task may be tough, but the payoff is big.“To create, share, and support the gift of reading and literature, is to give young people the gift of many worlds, within and without,”Avi states.
4. What do the readers mentioned by Avi have in common?
A. They often seek help from him.
B. They can find themselves in his books.
C. They have been influenced by his works.
D. They have offered helpful suggestions to him.
5. What’s the main reason why author Avi uses the name Avi?
A. It was given to him by his parents.
B. It is used in memory of his sisters.
C. It encourages him to achieve his dream.
D. It is the name of one of his favorite characters.
6. What do we learn about Avi from the text?
A. He is a self-made writer.
B. He often sends his readers gifts.
C. He considers writing an easy job.
D. He is against copying other writers style.
7. What is the text mainly about?
A. How Avi looks at his fans.
B. Some important book awards.
C. How Avi improves his writing skills.
D.A popular writer among young readers.

In 1961, at Ecole Monseigneur Valois in Pierrefonds, Que, a perfect spelling test or extra neat work allowed you to score a beautiful picture. I managed to earn a few beauties in my favourite subject: penmanship(书法). However, what truly inspired me was the band of curling(弯曲的) letters circling the room above the blackboard --- real grown-up handwriting from A to Z. How I longed to be done with maths and dive into those beautiful letters.
After I hit motherhood, maternal desire to help my child succeed led me back to those early handwriting lessons. By the time my son was 9, his keyboarding skills amazed me, but his handwriting resembled some ugly scratches on the page. We spent one summer in daily 15-minute sessions with a copybook and pen: handwriting practice rewarded with cupcakes.
My little boy sat at the kitchen table day after day, dragging his pen across the paper to please his mother and earn a treat. However, my patient attempts to encourage good penmanship didn’t have much effect. Today, my son keyboards at the speed of light and signs paper documents with a signature of still awkward handwriting.
Friendly posts and family pictures on social media can be heartwarming, but they’re transitory. Handwritten notes have the potential to mark possessions as keepsakes(纪念品). How I treasure that book with a carefully worded inscription (题词) at the front, a gift from my sister. Or the handwritten letter of thanks from my former boss. She wrote to me in fountain pen and later gave me one as a gift when I left for a new job.
These days, like most people, I communicate with the wider world via e-mail, post or tweet. But when I want to share a memorable message with someone important, I reach for a pen to write
a note--- a note you can hold in your hand or save in a drawer and revisit in years to come.
8. What can be learned about the author according to Paragraph 1?
A. She was good at maths.
B. She had a lot of pen friends.
C. She enjoyed collecting beautiful pictures.
D. She worked hard to improve her handwriting.
9. What was the result of the author’s kitchen table sessions?
A. Her temper was lost.
B. Her efforts were in vain.
C. Her son became impatient.
D. Her son’s keyboarding skills improved.
10. Which of the following best describes “transitory” underlined in Paragraph 4?
A. Complex.
B. Indirect.
C. Short-lived.
D. Well-known.
11. What will the author do in the future?
A. Stop using keyboards.
B. Teach handwriting again.
C. Write notes to important ones.
D. Learn to be a considerate boss.

A Wisconsin man made international headlines this week after a dog lick(舔) led to a rare infection resulting in the loss of part of his legs and arms. Greg Manteufel,48, was diagnosed(诊断) with a blood infection from capnocytophaga canimorsus (犬咬二氧化碳嗜纤维菌) a bacterium found in dog and cat mouths. Doctors believe Manteufel became infected after his body was touched by a dog’s tongue. Manteufel’s case was serious.
Capnocytophaga is a bacterium found in the mouths of dogs, cats and even humans, and is considered normal, according to the CDC. Up to 74 percent of dogs and 57 percent of cats have
some form of capnocytophaga in their mouths. There are many species of capnocytophaga. One of those species---capnocytophaga canimorsus, commonly found in dog and cat mouths can potentially cause serious infection when passed on to humans.
It's possible to test pets for the presence of the bacteria, but an animal might have the bacteria one day but not have it the next, according to the CDC. And it’s not practical to treat animals with medicine to get rid of the bacteria because it’s a normal part of their biology.
People are typically infected with capnocytophaga canimorsus from an animal bite, usually a dog bite. Some people, like Manteufel, become infected without a bite, if an animal carrying the bacteria licks them and the saliva(唾液) touches an open area on the skin, like a cut.
The bacterium is common, but becoming seriously ill from an infection is not. “It’s just really, really, really rare,” said Scott Weese, a professor at Ontario Veterinary College’s Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses. “The risk caused by a dog is really low. Most dogs are carrying this bacterium in their mouth, but few people get sick.” Experts don’t know exactly how many people get infected with capnocytophaga annually because there’s no centralized record of cases. But all agree that serious infections happen once in a blue moon.
12. What happened to Greg Manteufel?
A. He got bitten by a dog.
B. He fell seriously ill after kissing a dog.
C. He got an infection after a severe injury.
D. He was seriously infected by a dog's lick.
13. What do the figures given in Paragraph 2 show?
A. Dogs and cats can be dangerous.
B. Capnocytophaga can spread very fast.
C. Capnocytophaga is a common bacterium.
D. Dogs and cats can avoid capnocytophaga.
14. What’s implied about testing pets for the presence of capnocytophaga?
A. It can save their life.
B. It makes no difference.
C. It' s commonly performed.
D. It can help avoid the bacteria.
15. What can we learn about capnocytophaga after reading the text?
A. It can put dogs in danger.
B. It is usually not easy to find.
C. Severe infections of it are very rare.
D. Completely getting rid of it is possible.
第二节:根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
If you can’t lay your hands on items you need because they’re buried under piles of junk, if you’re constantly moving items from one pile to a new temporary pile, if you find yourself thinking, “I can't throw this away.16_,” you’re probably a clutter(杂七杂八的东西) victim. If you’re ready to de-clutter, then we have a few simple tips.
1. Choose a nice day and take the room contents outside. Psychologically it’s easier to sort and let go if you're one step removed. It’s also less likely that the clutter will make it back inside. 17_. Classify them as dump(丢弃), donate and keep. Be realistic: if the item in question hasn’t been used for over a year it is unlikely you will ever use it. Deal with the dump and donate piles. Do this before anything comes back into the house. It’s much harder to mess up your good work if the stuff is physically gone.
2. 18_. Make sure there is one temporary box to house items which really belong in another room. As each room is sorted, those items can be replaced, and other misplaced items can be housed there while the de-cluttering process continues.
3. Replace everything that remains. Keep small items in clear plastic boxes and store them in cupboards. 19_. It will make you think twice about acquiring something if you know something else must go.
4.Once a week, take two bags and go through your home. 20_. When you’ve finished, throw the rubbish away and replace the misplaced items.
Follow these small steps and you too can de-clutter your life.
A. Sometimes, it’ s good to let go
B. Sort everything into three piles
C. It might come in useful one day
D. Stick with that particular room until it’s finished
E. Place the remaining items in clearly labeled boxes
F. One bag is for rubbish, the other for items in the wrong place
G. When you’re done, stick to a “one thing in, one thing out” rule

Dear Peter,
How is everything going? I am writing to you, hoping to seek for help.
Our school will hold an English dubbing contest on May 20th. I am eager to have a try. However, I don't know which film is suitable. As a movie fan, would you be so kind as to give me some recommendations? According to the requirements, the theme should be about friendship. And each video may last 4 to 5 minutes. What's more, there should not be more than six characters in each video.
I would really appreciate it if you could do me the favor. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
