SYNOPSIS:

EX Switch root password recovery method during Beta period.

The procedure requires a few extra commands but will be simplified to a single command in loader mode in a later release.

PROBLEM:

EX Switch root password recovery. SOLUTION:

To recover the password on the EX Switch you must be connected via the console, reboot and then access Loader mode. The steps for completing this process are listed below along with the actual boot output.

Password Recovery Steps:

1. Access EX Switch via the console port. 2. Reboot the EX Switch

3. When prompted to enter Loader mode hit the bar and you will be sitting at the

\

loader> boot -s

4. When prompted with, \Enter full pathname of shell or 'recovery' for root password recovery

or RETURN for /bin/sh:\following:

# fsck -y

5. Once fsck completes you will be at the hash prompt again. Enter the following:

# mount -a

# rm /config/juniper* # exit

6. After the system is mounted you will be prompted with the root login prompt. Enter the

NOTE: A password is not required for root login during initial setup. Sample Boot Process:
