1) What time is it in Beijing? It’s eight o’clock in the morning. 2) Today’s story is about Zhu Hui, a student from Shenzhen. 3) He’s now studying in the United States. 4) He’s living with an American family in New York. 5) Today is the Dragon Boat Festival. 6) His mom and aunt are making zongzi.

7) His dad and uncle are watching the boat races on TV. 8) Well, it’s 9:00 p.m. in New York, and it’s the night before the festival. 9) But there isn’t a Dragon Boat Festival in the US, so it’s like any other night for Zhu Hui and his host family. 10) The mother is reading a story to her young children. 11) The father is watching a soccer game on TV. 12) He’s talking on the phone to his cousin in Shenzhen. 13) Zhu Hui misses his family and wishes to have his mother’s delicious zongzi. 14) Zhu Hui likes New York and his host family a lot, but there’s still “no place like home”.

1.1.1.3 Grammar Focus

1) Today’s story is about Zhu Hui, a student from Shenzhen.(about, 介词,意为“关于”。from, 介词,意为 “从…”,短语有 “来自”come from=be from; “从…到…”

from…to…。)

2) His dad and uncle are watching the boat races on TV. The father is watching a soccer game on TV. (on TV “在电视里,在电视上”;race 和game 都有比赛的意思,但race更多的是强调与速度有关的赛跑,赛车,游泳的比赛,而game更侧重球类,棋类等体育比赛。)

3) But there isn’t a Dragon Boat Festival in the US, so it’s like any other night for Zhu Hui and his host family. (be like, 介词短语,意为“像,像…一样”。any other night表示“任何(一个)其他的夜晚”,其中any表示“任何一个;任意一个”; any other…表示“任何别的…,任何其他的…”后面接名词单数。host family指人们出国时所借宿的人家,意为“房东家”。)

4)The mother is reading a story to her young children. (read a story to sb, 意思是“读故事给某人听”,指的是拿着书读出来,和tell the story 有区别,tell the story 是指没有书,而是凭借记忆讲或是编一个故事。)

5)Zhu Hui misses his family and wishes to have his mother’s delicious zongzi. (miss, 动词,意为“想念”,短语结构为miss sb; wish, 动词,意为“希望”,短语结构为wish sb. to do sth. 也可作名词,意为“愿望”,可数名词,复数形式为wishes, 表示美好的祝愿,best wishes. )

1.2.2 通过运用不同的阅读任务,运用skimming和scanning等阅读策略,略读和精读文章,降低阅读难度,提升阅读兴趣。

2.1 Fundamental State基本情况

通过前三个课时的学习,学生基本上激活了已有的语言知识,对本单元的话题(Talk about what people are doing)已经有所感知,学生已经基本掌握了关于现在进行时的表达方式,可以对别人和自己的活动进行表述,并表达自己的看法和感受。本部分内容介绍节日,国外家庭生活场景和中美文化差异,学生比较感兴趣。但是初一学生语言能力较弱,而且本课生词较多,因此,学生阅读本篇文章还存在一定难度。

2.2 Knowledge Reserve知识储备

经过前三个课时围绕单元话题talk about what people are doing的学习,大部分学生的知识得到了扩展,学会了用现在进行时表达别人和自己的活动。本节课将丰富学生在日常活动话题中的有关文化习俗的语言输入内容,谈论日常生活中的活动,提高学生的阅读能力和提取信息的能力。

2.3 Class data本班实际

本班学生对前三个课时所学基本知识掌握都比较扎实,绝大部分学生对现在进行时表达别人和自己的活动的用法也能够正确使用;学习动机明确,能够在小组活动中互相帮助,积极与他人合作,敢于用英语进行表达。本课时引导学生谈论时差,中国传统节日---端午节以及国外家庭生活场景和中美文化差异,学生比较感兴趣。对于阅读篇目,教师应该使用恰当的阅读策略,引导学生从读前讨论,进入读中的思考,进行有效的思维训练。

5.2.1.3Guide Ss to have a free talk in groups and share their ideas with each other about the activities Chinese people will do on the Dragon Boat Festival and the daily activities of an American family. And ask some students to make a report. Since Ss guess and discuss the activities, now let’s see if they are right. 5.2.2 While-reading-读中理解

5.2.2.1 Fast reading. Ask Ss to read the passage and quickly find out the answers to the questions.
