A group of frogs were traveling through the woods when two of them fell into a deep pit (坑). All the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The tow frogs ignored their words and tried to jump out of the pit with all of their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead.

Every year in China around Tomb-Sweeping Day(清明节), tea plants ripen (成熟) and people pick the leaves. According to tradition, the tea picked before Tomb-Sweeping Day is one of the highest value. Long ago, it was this tea that was served to the Emperor.

Tea is a daily drink in China. Chinese people enjoy tea with snacks, main dishes, and before or after meals. Guests are often served the drink. At a family gathering, young people show their respect to their elders by offering a cup of tea.

Tea culture is very strong in Russia, too. In Russia, people drink tea out of glasses, and with soup or dessert at the end of meals. The typical Russian tea ceremony usually involves a samovar-a metal container (容器) for heating water. People put black tea in a teapot and pour boiling water over it. The pot is then placed on top of the samovar. Samovars can be found in homes, trains, offices and restaurants.

However, things are different in the UK. British people also drink tea all day. But there is also a special tradition of afternoon tea, where the tea is served with light sandwiches and small cakes. Black tea with milk is by far the most widely drunk tea.

Today, most people in the UK use tea bags rather than tea leaves.

Despite the social and cultural differences around the world, drinking tea stands for a peaceful and comfortable lifestyle. It?s a way of escaping from the stress of life. 36. The time before the Tomb-Sweeping Day special for picking tea because__________.

When you cut your skin, you bleed (流血). If a person loses a lot of blood, he will become ill and may die. Blood is very important. People have always known that. At one time, some people even drank blood to make them strong!

When doctors understand how blood moves inside the body, they try ways of giving blood to people who need it. They take blood from healthy people and give it to people who need it. This is called a “blood transfusion”. The blood goes from the arm of the healthy person into the arm of the sick person.

But there are two problems. First, it does not always work. Sometimes people die when they have a blood transfusion. Also we do not all have the same kind of blood There are four groups--O, A, B and AB. Doctors can give any kind of blood to people of the group AB. But they find that they must give A-group blood to A-group people and B-group blood to B-group people. I have O-group blood and the doctor told me that I could give blood to anyone else safely.

There is another problem. To give blood of the right kind, doctors have to find a person of the right blood group. Often they cannot find a person in time. If they have a way to keep the blood until someone needs it, they can always have the right kind of blood. By making the blood very cold, doctors find they can keep it for a very long time. In the end they find a way of keeping blood for a very long time.

We call a place where we keep money a “bank”. We call a place where we keep blood a “blood bank”. One day, when you grow up, you may decide to give blood to a “blood bank”. In this way you may stop someone from dying. Or perhaps, one day, you may become ill, and you may need blood. The “blood bank” will give it to you.

A. have drunk others? blood B. have lost a lot of blood C. are not given the right kind of blood D. are AB-group people 47. What do we know about the writer?s blood A. The writer can get blood from A-group people. B. The writer can give blood to B-group people. C. AB-group people can give the writer blood D. The writer can get blood from anyone safely. 48. People set up the “blood bank” to _______.

A thick blanket of pollution, called the “Asian Brown Cloud” (亚洲褐云), is hanging over South Asia. Scientists warn it could kill millions of people in the place.

Smoke from forest fires, vegetation (植被) clearing and gas was just as much to blame for the shrouding haze as dirty industries from Asia?s great cities, the study

found:

Using data (数据) from ships, planes and satellites to study Asia?s cloud during the northern winter months of 1995 to 2000, scientists discovered not only that the smog (烟雾)cut sunlight, heating the atmosphere (大气层), but also that it created acid rain (酸雨), a serious problems for crops and trees, as well as making oceans dirty and hurting plants.

The report suggested the pollution could be cutting India?s winter rice harvest by as much as 10 percent.
