第三部分 阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

A

Everyone needs friends. We all like to feel close to someone. It is nice to have a friend to talk, laugh and do things with. Surely, there are times when we need to be alone. We don’t always want people around. But we would feel lonely if we never had a friend.

No two people are the same. Sometimes friends don’t get along well, which doesn’t mean that they no longer like each other. Most of the time they will go on being friends. Sometimes friends move away, then we feel very sad. We miss them very much, but we can call them and write to them. Maybe we would never see them again, and we can make new friends. It is surprising to find out how much we like new people when we get to know them. Families sometimes name their children after a close friend. Many places are named after men and women, if they are friendly to people in a town. Some libraries are named this way. So are some schools. We think of these people when we go to these places.

There’s more good news for people, if they have friends. These people live longer than those people if those don’t have friends. Why? It could be that they are happier. Being happy helps you stay well. Or it could be just knowing that someone cares, if someone cares about you, you take better care of yourself. 41. The first paragraph tells us ______.

A. none need friends

B. we always need friends around us

C. making friends is the need in people’s life D. we need to be alone

A. they feel happier and healthier

B. they get a lot of help from their friends C. they take better care of themselves D. both A and C

44. This passage tells us ______.

A. that people are all friends B. that people need friends C. how to get to know friends D. how to name a place

B

To me, life without music will not be exciting. I realize this is not true for everybody. Many people get along quite well without going to the concert, or listening to the record. But music plays an important part in everyone’s life, whether he or she realizes it or not. Try to imagine,

英语必修一 第4页 (共8页)

for example, what films or TV plays will be like without music? Will they be so moving or exciting? I’ m not sure about that.

Now we have been speaking of music in its more common meaning — the kind of music we hear in the concert hall. But if we look at some parts of music more closely, we discover them in our daily life too — in the rhythm (韵律) of the sea, the melody of a bird in the woods and so on. So music surely has meaning for everyone in some ways or other. And, of course, it has special meaning for those who have spent all their lives working on playing or writing music.

It is well said, “Through music a child enters a world of beauty, expresses himself from his heart, feels the joy of doing things alone, learns to take care of others, develops his mind and makes his body strong.”

45. The writer mainly wants to tell us about _______.

A. life with music everywhere B. life being enjoyed without music C. the importance of music in our life D. the development of music in history

Stepping into a pool of water is common enough, but who could ever imagine stepping into a pool of fish? In February of 2004, Bill Tappan Australian farmer saw a rain of fish that covered his farm. How surprised he must have been when he heard many fish hitting against his roof!

What caused this strange occurrence? This is a question that had long puzzled people who study fish. The answer turned out to be a combination of wind and storm.

When it is spring in the northern part of the world, it is fall in Australia. Throughout the autumn season, terrible storms arise and rains flood the land. The strong winds sweep over Australia like huge vacuum cleaners(真空清洁器), collecting seaweed, pieces of wood, and even schools of fish. Strong winds may carry these bits of nature for many miles before vacuum dropping them on fields, houses, and astonished people.

Although they seem unusual, fish-falls occur quite frequently in Australia. When Bill Tapp was asked to describe the scene of fish-fall, he remarked,” They look like millions of dead birds falling down.” His statement is not surprising. The wonders of the natural world are as common as rain. Nature, with its infinite wonders, can create waterfalls that flow upward and fish that falls out of the sky. 52. What is this passage about?
