1) On informal occasions: Sample 1: Good evening, everybody. We have a very important guest with us now. He is Dr. Anderson. Tonight he will speak about his thought-provoking best-seller, the End of the World. Please welcome Dr. Anderson.

Sample 2: Good evening, everybody. I am pleased to introduce today’s guest speaker, Prof. Huston. Professor Huston is too well-known to require my introduction. I think we’re all anxious to hear his remarks, so let us welcome him to the podium.

Ladies and gentlemen, we feel very fortunate to have Mr. Kelvin Andrews, a distinguished professor from the United States of America, as our guest speaker today. Mr. Andrews is the director of the Laser Research Center, California, and he has made some important discoveries in the field of laser research in the past few years. Today, he is going to lecture on the medical application of lasers of various types, and he will touch on some of the theoretical aspects as well. I am sure we will all be interested to hear what he is to say. Now I will hand the chair to our guest speaker, Mr. Andrews.

We are greatly privileged to have professor …with us today. Professor …is from the United States. He is going to talk about the industrial application of laser of various types, and he will touch on some of the theoretical aspects as well. Well, now, I’ll hand the chair to our speaker.

3.Read more samples to get familiar with the content and format on how to introduce a keynote speaker.

Learning Aids:1. As a chairman, you should mention the speaker’s academic experiences and achievement, position or rank, present research field in order to arouse the audience’s curiosity, to motivate them to respond positively to the keynote speech. However, your introduction should be brief. Avoid boring the audience with a long recital of the speaker’s biography or with a long series of anecdotes about your acquaintance with him. Usually the better known and more respected a speaker is, the shorter your introduction can be, and the less wellknown the speaker is, the more you will need to do to arouse interest in his subject and build up his prestige.

2. See that everyone present is fairly and impartially treated. 3. When one of the keynote speakers finishes his presentation, you should sum up or comment on it briefly, and then move on to the next speaker. When the last speaker finishes, compliment on him and announce the session adjourned.
