There are many famous museums throughout the world where people can enjoy art. Washington D. C. has the National Gallery of Art;Paris has the Louvre; London, the British Museum. Florida International University(FIU)in Miami also shows art for people to see. And it does so without a building, or even a wall for its drawings and paintings. FIU has opened what it says is the first computer art museum in the United States. You don’t have to visit the university to see the art. You just need a computer linked to a telephone.

You can call the telephone number of a university computer and connect your own computer to it. All of the art is stored in the school computer. It is computer art, produced electronically by artists on their own computers. In only a few minutes, your computer can receive and copy all the pictures and drawings.

Robert Shostak is director of the new computer museum. He says he started the museum because computer artists had no place to show their works.

A computer artist could only record his pictures electronically and send the records, or floppy discs, to others to see on their computers. He could also put his pictures on paper. But to print good pictures on paper, the computer artist needed an expensive laser printer.

Robert Shostak says the electronic museum is mostly for art or computer students at schools and universities. Many of the pictures in the museum are made by students. Mr Shostak said the FIU museum will make computer art more fun for computer artists because more people can see it. He says artists enjoy their works much more if they have an audience. And the great number of home computers in America could mean a huge audience for the electronic museum. 54.The main purpose of this passage is to give information about ________. Born in Atchison, Kansas, in 1898, Earhart worked as a nurse during World War I. Then she was a social worker before she went to California to earn money for flying lessons.

Fame came to Earhart suddenly in June 1928. As a passenger, she was the first woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean in an airplane. Overnight she was one of the most famous women in the world. She logged more flying hours after that. She wanted to gain more experience. Then she could set some flight records of which she could be proud. She flew nonstop

across the United States. This flight set a new women’s record. Next, she was the first person to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean.

In 1937 she took on flying’s greatest challenge. She and navigator Fred Noonan would try to fly around the world. They left Florida on May 21. Their goal was to reach Howland Island, but they never did. On July 2, 1937, less than a month before her thirty-ninth birthday, Earhart’s plane disappeared without a trace. Nothing was ever found, in spite of one of the most extensive searches in history.

Years later, Earhart’s husband wrote Soaring Wings. But to this day, no one knows for sure what happened to Amelia Earhart. Some people speculate that the plane had engine trouble and crashed into the sea. Others believe that it ran out of fuel. Some people want to continue to look for another solution. Like a puzzle with a missing piece, the story of Amelia Earhart remains a mystery.
