Yangon has the main sea port and Industry Zones. Therefore, Yangon is the biggest load center of Myanmar. Mandalay, Naypyitaw and Ayeyarwaddy regions are also have the high population density and the power demand is increasing rapidly.

Background History for Power System The voltage levels of the Myanmar electrical power system are– 500 kV– 230 kV– 132 kV– 66 kV– 33 kV– 11 kV. The national grid has no direct connections to other grids of neighboring countries. The network comprises 44 overhead lines at 230 kV with a total length of 3979 km 41 overhead lines at 132 kV with a total length of 2334 km 100 overhead lines at 66 kV with a total length of 3729 km 11 overhead lines at 33 kV having a total length of 27 km. The 230 kV and 132 kV overhead lines are interconnecting approximately 69 substations. The above details are valid for the transmission system only and do not include the distribution network.
